Industry peeps- urgent call.
Can you connect me with approx 350-400 plain-ish liquor merch t’s? We are trying to make t-shirts to identity our homeless population so that they do not get hurt for being out after curfew.

Spam me. Thank you.
As Minnesota reopens, your employers MUST accommodate for your safety and CANNOT retaliate if you deem your work unsafe and refuse to return. This is your right-- you cannot be fired, docked pay, or punished otherwise for it.

While "what constitutes a [legally actionable] fear of an unsafe work environment... is up for interpretation," if you voice such concerns to your employer and they " don’t make reasonable changes, then [you] should file a complaint with Minnesota’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration." (1)

Further, employers cannot punish you for or prevent you from any "protective gear" you bring to the workplace in order to "protect [you], [your] coworkers, or the public against COVID-19." Your employer can only require other gear if it is "employer-provided protective gear that meets or exceeds protective gear procured by employees." (2)

If your employer refuses to make safety accommodations, or threatens to fire or punish you, remind them this behavior isn't just a dick move and generally bad PR, it's now legal discrimination. Remind them that the investigations and legal actions in discrimination cases can lead to backpay and compensatory damages, mandated rehiring with reinstatement of benefits/seniority, and the coverage of legal costs to the state and even to private attorneys.(3) Remind them this litigation lasts an average of just under a year and the average settlement cost is $160,000 alone--a lot more than the cost of some plexiglass and a box of masks. Great post by NAMI Ramsey County 🙌

Our family, fans and their family’s health is more important than our finances and our fun. As much as we wanted to do this with you- we didn’t expect a global pandemic to interfere. Many artists and industries are hurting today as a result of the COVID 19 cancellations. If you are one of the lucky people who get to work from home; Will you please consider buying a T-shirt from your favorite band today? If you’d like to help those displaced by the cancellations, you can help by purchasing the wash your damn hands shirt at www.thevontramps.com/store. 100% of proceeds go to gofundme; a fundraiser to help industry workers, waitstaff, hospitality and musicians displaced by the cancellations. You can also help by donating directly to gofundme. MSP: there is a fund opened for local musicians and artists who need financial help with the cancellations. That link is here: https://springboardforthearts.org/coronavirus/

Please help if you can. Again, the cancellations are completely inconvenient and putting us in financial risk; but we need to do what’s best for our whole community when facing a crisis like this. Save lives, stay home, love each other.

Thank you!

Please, take the time to read this AMAZING piece on Antonio Murry. He is not only one heck of a fella, Chef Murry is the Director of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion for Serving Those Serving, as well as an employment consultant and recruiting specialist for EHS Recruiting Company - Minneapolis.

Cheers to you, Chef Antonio. The hospitality community and our team is stronger than ever, thanks to the good you do in the world. 🙏🏿🥂

We're celebrating with Joliet Junior College Culinary Arts features all month long, starting with alumnus Antonio Murry, recruiting specialist for EHS Recruiting Company.

What does your job entail?
Essentially, I’m a headhunter, I source, vet, and conduct preliminary interviews of candidates for hospitality industry roles. I assist candidates with resume preparation, coach them through the interview process, assist with facilitating said interviews, and perform reference checks. I also consult with restaurant owners on hiring trends and market salaries.

What is your favorite part of your work?
How impactful the work is! When I moved to Minneapolis 8 years ago, I didn’t have a job lined up, and I did not know the market here at all. I used the same firm I currently work for to help with landing me a great gig and they did. The work that we do often leans into career management. Sometimes we all need a little help identifying what the next best move is for us.

How did you get into headhunting? Was that always part of your plan/an area of interest to you?
Summer of 2021, EHS was looking for a recruiter, and I answered the proverbial call. I kept in close contact with my recruiter, Izzy. She always kept me up to date when new industry positions became available in my market. Being friends with Izzy on social media also showed me that she was traveling a lot and enjoying life: that’s what I wanted. Being a recruiter was never part of the plan — plans are funny that way!

Why would you recommend the JJC culinary program?
JJC will give you a rudimentary understanding of what it means to be a chef. You will have a base knowledge of things that you can build upon once you leave school and enter the workforce. The chef instructors I studied under were genuinely invested in my success and always gave me practical, sound advice. Culinary school will give any passionate young cook an edge over the competition. JJC gave me an edge over graduates of other culinary schools. I have cooked with and for some awesome chefs in the 14 years since I graduated, I never second guessed my abilities or felt intimidated because someone went to CIA or Johnson & Wales because I knew that I was prepared just as well if not better than my peers.

Cheers to you all 🙏🏼🥂🍻🍔🥗🥪

About us...

Serving Those Serving is devoted to the Mental and Workplace Wellness of the service industry community. Employees in the food and beverage industry severely lack resources, and often have nowhere to turn when life hits hard. High-stress jobs, combined with lack of benefits, puts workers at high risk for wellness challenges. We intend to close the gap between our industry and QUALITY ACCESS to public & private resources, such as:

- Licensed Mental Health Professionals - Alcohol and Chemical Dependency Counseling
- Legal, Financial, and Immigration - Housing, Finance, Transportation, Childcare

Our organization was born from the political Facebook group “Service Industry Staff for Change” (SISC). The group’s 9000+ members produced petitions, published articles, attended mayoral meetings, and sessions with Minneapolis and St. Paul City Councils. Major municipal and state policies have been influenced by our former and current board members, including the research and implementation of the “Safe and Sick Time Ordinance” in Minneapolis and St. Paul. SISC also remains a hub for employment opportunities and community connections across the state of Minnesota.

Serving Those Serving partnered with Sand Creek Workplace Wellness to provide Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) to restaurants, bars, and other food & beverage establishments, their employees, and their families. EAP’s are commonly found in traditional workplace settings, but are virtually non-existent in the service industry. Serving Those Serving has the opportunity to bring potentially life saving, live changing resources to a major sector of the workforce in Minnesota and across the United States.
