Let’s relax, shall we? Besides Herbs, there’s YOGA and I’m teaching again!! After a 2 year break I’m back to all the same postures with a different flow. I’m at CorePower Yoga on Grand at 7:30 Mondays and Wednesdays….and it’s candlelight!! I hope to see you soon!

Great follow up to my Vagus Nerve posts:

The Vagus Nerve, your secret weapon to managing triggers, stress and anxiety. Something many of us greatly need. The vagus nerve is perhaps the nerve with the most impact on our mind and body wellness. It’s the longest cranial nerve, and serves as a communication superhighway between the brain, the nervous system, and the gut (also known as gut-brain axis) In other words, the vagus nerve is THE mind-body connection.

Psychologists say that when we have unresolved trauma, the vagal tone becomes weak. A weak vagal tone is inked to high inflammation (scientifically linked to all psychiatric illness) chronic illness, digestive issues, cardiovascular diseases, mood disorders, etc. A weak vagal tone means we can’t handle or recover from stress quickly, meaning that we remain “stuck” in the nervous system and shutdown, freeze or ignite fight-flight-freeze mode.

When our vagus nerve is thriving, we might feel calm, cool and collected, not as triggered as the usual, a feeling of wellbeing and strong immune system.

How to tone the vagus nerve daily, something we greatly need around high trigger potentials… and basically all the time…

- Breathwork: Strong exhales in particular
- Diaphragmatic breathing
- Nervine herbs (like those featured above!)
- Cold plunges or cold compresses
- Being in nature
- Meditation
- Slow stretching/ yin yoga
- Mindfulness
- Nourishing Wholesome Foods
- Vagal nerve stimulation with electrical impulses (if you have access to it!)
