CORI's Bill Messinger provides ideas for an innovative approach to treatment services based on a Massachusetts's model that's approachable and effective.

We joined together to increase the tax on alcohol to fund services, hoping to end the revolving door of jail, drug seeking, jail, etc. No luck then or to date.

CORI's Bill Messinger reflects on the alcoholic's curse and celebrates the opportunity we now have to explore treatment options beyond a 12-step approach and abstinence. Because, while those routes work for some, they don't work for all and like any other disease, people need access to treatment options that work for them. Read more:

CORI is proud to be working with Recovery Policy Alliance to enhance Minnesota's treatment system - advocating for access to MAT is just the start.

Misinformation — especially around medications for opioid use disorder — does nothing but increase stigma and risk for our communities’ most vulnerable people and families.

Addiction is a complicated medical diagnosis to treat. While there's more to learn about MAT, it still remains one of the most effective, evidence based treatment options and should be made available to those who could benefit from it.

CORI has and will continue to be a strong advocate for diversionary programs - we know access to treatment and wrap around services remains a barrier for many people facing addiction and adding arrest and criminal record to a list of barriers only decreases access to many needed services and opportunities.

CORI had high hopes this legislative season and while MN still has much work to do, we are grateful that due to HF 5247, Minnesotans will have better access to treatment and services while in and transitioning out of incarceration and overall fewer barriers to receiving much needed and life saving services. We will be celebrating our wins and gearing up for next year! Stay tuned.

CORI is always hopeful and anxious to see the impact that additional funding for MN can have.

New state grants will address the ravages of opioid abuse by expanding treatment capacity and bolstering resources that strengthen communities and prevent opioid addiction.

With the growing presence of fentanyl contributing to an unprecedented number of drug overdose deaths, many Minnesotans need help – and urgently. The $20.1 million in new grants from the Minnesota Department of Human Services will expand services available to support people suffering from opioid use disorder and make it easier to get help.
