The coping skills that end up creating more harm, are the ones that at one point in time kept us safe and able to cope.
Let’s work to create safe spaces and environments so that we can process and regulate our emotions so that we can teach and model them to our children and future generations 👏

We have to show all parts and versions of ourselves compassion in order to heal!
According to the “Black women are 3 times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than White women. Multiple factors contribute to these disparities, such as variation in quality healthcare, underlying chronic conditions, structural racism and implicit bias”
Healthcare providers, hospitals & healthcare systems, states & communities, and pregnant people and their families need to come together to address this systemic issue to reduce preventable Black maternal death.

Meet Carolina Wagnild!
Carolina is currently accepting new clients and accepts most insurance. Go to the link in our bio to request an appointment.
Carolina has availability Tuesday-Thursday.
Carolina works primarily with young adults and couples.
Here is a little bit about Carolina:
“I’m so happy you’re here! Life can be as stressful as it is beautiful, so let’s laugh, let’s cry, and let’s just slow down.
I am an MA MFT Intern working on completing my degree through Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. I have a creative, eclectic style about me and a systemic approach to therapy so that I can effectively address each individual’s needs with compassion, openness, and sensitivity. I am passionate about helping couples and individuals step out of their comfort zones in order to feel a deeper connection to their true selves and to each other. I believe all the relationships we cultivate and maintain in our lives are such pure sources of joy and positive energy, and I want to help you nourish those relationships while practicing self-love and self-acceptance. You’re worthy of love and belonging, so let’s use the power and insight you have to problem-solve and work together to accomplish your goals. I will do my best to help you feel seen, heard, and validated.
When I’m not working, I keep myself busy by enjoying time with my sweet friends and family, finding the coziest coffee shops, dancing by myself, singing, and doing whatever art project I’m inspired to do that day.”
Being asked “if” or “when” we will get pregnant when experiencing infertility is brutal.
A good reminder to be gentle when asking about pregnancy and fertility 👏
Boundaries are not always easy to set but have such a big impact on our mental health and well being!

Motherhood alone can be hard and challenging. The invisible load on black mothers and parents is massive.

Find your safe space and share your story 👏
The coping mechanisms and behaviors that served a purpose and kept us safe at one point in time, may be harming us now.
Have compassion for yourself. Identify the need in order to find new coping mechanisms/behaviors to meet it!

Introducing our new therapists here at The Family Development Center!
Why should you see a therapist at The Family Development Center Teaching Clinic?
1. In today's therapy market where people are often met with long waiting lists or encounter difficulties with response times, The Family Development Center Teaching Clinic offers immediate openings with Master's Level Clinical interns.
2. The Teaching Clinic offers a sliding scale option for low cost therapy to those without insurance coverage or with a high deductible plan.
3. Seeing a Teaching Clinic intern means benefitting from not only the expertise of the clinician in the room (or the screen) with you, but also their Board Approved supervisor, a licensed therapist that is trained in providing support and guidance to new therapists.
Progress not perfection!

Vulnerability is a super power.
As Brené Brown says, “Vulnerability is the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, courage, empathy, and creativity. It is the source of hope and empathy, accountability, and authenticity.”
