May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and we’re taking a moment to highlight an important distinction that often gets overlooked: the difference between mental health and mental health conditions.
Understanding this difference helps all of us support our overall wellness—including how chiropractic care can play a role in reducing stress and supporting whole-body healing.
Here’s a simple breakdown:
💚 Mental health is something everyone has. It includes your emotional, psychological, and social well-being and influences how you think, feel, and function each day.
💚 Mental health conditions are specific and diagnosable, such as anxiety, depression, or PTSD. More than half of people will experience a mental health diagnosis at some point in their lives.
💚 Good mental health and mental illness can coexist. With treatment, support, and healthy habits, many people experience strong periods of well-being.
💚 Poor mental health doesn’t always mean illness. Stress, burnout, or major life changes can impact how you feel, even without a diagnosis.
💚 Small daily actions matter. Journaling, deep breathing, gentle movement, and time with loved ones all support mental well-being—and for many of our patients, chiropractic adjustments help reduce tension and support the mind-body connection.
💚 Professional support is available. Therapy and other health services, including chiropractic care, can be valuable tools for anyone looking to improve how they feel.
If you need support, consider reaching out to a qualified health care professional. You’re not alone.
