Full schedule, multiple venues, steady coverage 💯🏅

From April 27–May 3, our team stayed active all across the metro, maintaining a visible presence among multiple sports, and making sure athletes were at their best!

This week we had:
• 15 medics staffed
• 158 coverage hours
• 5 different sports

Active EMS coverage means anticipating issues and staying engaged throughout the event. Visibility, quick response, and communication helps create a more organized, safer environment for everyone involved.

We are so proud of all the work our EMTs have put in this past week!

How does covering Track & Field as an EMT differ from other sports? 🏃‍♂️☀️

Track & Field brings a different kind of challenge; multiple different events in the outdoor elements. With athletes spread across differing events, long competition days, and outdoor conditions, our EMTs are always scanning, ready to respond if needed.

Dehydration and overexertion are some of the most common issues we see, especially during warmer weekends and longer meets.

No matter the event, our standards remain high 🩺

5 sports, 3 states, 1 week 🏒🏀🏈🏃‍♀️🏐

From April 20–26, our team represented Smith EMS across multiple states in the Midwest, including Minnesota, Wisconsin, and North Dakota. From high school volleyball to full weekend tournaments, our medics remained on high alert across all venues to support athletes, coaches, and staff.

• 318 total hours worked
• 68 patients cared for
• 14 different locations

A visible presence and quick response help events run smoother and create a more organized, safer environment for everyone involved.

Meet the Medic | Cameron

This is Cameron, one of the EMTs representing Smith EMS at events across Minnesota. For Cameron, Smith EMS stands out because of the people. A strong, friendly team environment makes it easy to stay connected and perform at a high level during every event.

Since joining Smith EMS, Cameron has also become a hockey fan, spending weekends rinkside has allowed him to gain a new appreciation for the speed and physicality of the game.

Before the first whistle, before the first play, our team is getting ready. Gear checked, eyes up, moving. It might look a little cinematic, but the role is real. Showing up prepared means we’re ready to respond, support athletes, and handle what comes our way.

Coverage was all hands on deck for Smith EMS this weekend 🏀🏉🏒

From April 17–19, our team stayed active supporting Twin Cities, Saint Cloud, and Fargo/Moorhead locations! Maintaining a consistent, visible presence and moving between venues to support athletes and staff.

• 12 medics staffed
• 191 total hours worked
• 30+ patients cared for

The presence at hand helped these events run smoother and supported a more organized, safer environment for everyone involved.

🚑 Welcome to the Team, Matthew!

We’re excited to welcome Matthew to Smith EMS as a Sports Medic.

Matthew is a Certified EMT with real experience across both clinical care and emergency response, bringing a strong skillset and calm presence to every event.

He joined Smith EMS because he is driven to help people and has a passion for sports.

How does covering Jiu Jitsu as an EMT differ from other sports? Cortez breaks it down. 🤼

It’s not about standing on the sideline, it’s about understanding the sport. Staying close to the action and being ready to respond without disrupting the flow is critical in this environment.

That awareness helps keep response times quick and supports a more controlled, safer atmosphere for all athletes and coaches.

Full slate for the Smith EMS team this weekend! 🏅

From April 10–12, Smith EMS covered 8 locations all over Minnesota, including:
• South Saint Paul • Stillwater • Hastings • Woodbury
• Sartell • Saint Cloud • Eagan

No matter the location, players were provided with high quality care as over 40 patients were assessed and cared for throughout the weekend.

A visible, professional presence helps events run smoothly and supports a more organized, safer environment for athletes, coaches, and spectators.

🎥 Meet the Medic | Chelsi

This is Chelsi, one of the EMTs representing Smith EMS at events across Minnesota.

For Chelsi, Smith EMS provides the flexibility to stay involved in the work she loves, while continuing to grow both professionally and personally.

Outside of events, she attends the University of Minnesota and is actively involved in the ROTC program, balancing her commitment to service with hands-on experience in the field.
