🐾 Wild About Learning! 🐾
Last week, our therapeutic summer camp went wild with an animal theme—and it was truly paw-some! 🦁🐢🦋

Our campers explored the animal kingdom through fun, hands-on activities designed to build motor skills, encourage social connections, and spark imaginations. From animal yoga and sensory play to creative crafts and team challenges, every day was an adventure!

We loved seeing our kids roar with confidence, hop into new friendships, and soar toward their goals—all while having a blast. 🌟

Here’s to another week of growth, giggles, and great memories at camp! 💚🧡

20 years of Leaps and Bounds and counting! 🎈💖 Feeling grateful for every little thing and every big moment that has shaped our journey. We polled our therapists about what they're grateful for, and here's what they had to say:
😀 the smiles on kids' faces

🎨 DIY Wednesday: Vertical Painting Fun! 🖌️

Grab a shower liner, hang it outside, and let the creativity flow! Kids can paint and draw all over a vertical surface—and it’s more than just fun.

✨ Why vertical surfaces?
As we get closer to school, this kind of play helps kids:
✔️ Strengthen shoulders and core
✔️ Develop pencil grasp and wrist control
✔️ Improve hand-eye coordination
✔️ Boost visual tracking for reading
✔️ Practice crossing midline for writing fluency

🌞 And when it’s time to clean? Hand them a sponge and a bucket of water—instant water play! It’s still hot outside, so let them cool off while they wash away the masterpiece and get ready to start again. ☀️🧽

🧠 OT tip: Play with purpose: Sneaking in school-readiness doesn’t have to feel like work! Let kids play while building the foundational skills they need for the classroom. 💪✏️

✈️ Traveling with Sensory-Sensitive Kids? We’ve got you covered! 🧠💼

Whether you’re hitting the road, flying the skies, or exploring new places, travel can be overwhelming for kids with sensory needs. With a little preparation and the right tools, your trip can be smoother and more enjoyable for the whole family!

Here are some sensory-smart travel tips to keep things calm and connected:

✔️ Pack familiar items for comfort (blanket, stuffed animal, favorite toy)

✔️ Use noise-canceling headphones or earplugs in loud spaces

✔️ Bring crunchy or chewy snacks for calming oral input

✔️ Offer movement breaks during travel days

✔️ Keep a small bag of fidgets or calming activities on hand

✔️ Use visual schedules or timers to reduce surprises

💡 Remember: every child is different—finding what works best for your kid makes all the difference!

Today in OT, Ms. Amy and her client got creative and made a sled using a mat and some slippery shaving cream! 🛷💨
This fun winter-themed activity wasn’t just play—it worked on tons of important occupational therapy skills:
🧠 Motor Planning & Body Awareness – Figuring out how to move safely and effectively on a slick surface
💪 Core Strength & Balance – Staying upright and stable while gliding
✋ Sensory Processing – Engaging with different textures (foam, mat, shaving cream) in a safe and playful way
🤝 Turn Taking & Communication – Practicing social skills while working with a partner
🎯 Problem Solving – Making adjustments to stay on track or try a new way to move

Wishing the happiest of birthdays to our amazing co-owner and OT, Matt! Matt always is helping other therapists and has the most creative interventions for the kids he sees! Matt can problem solve through all different scenarios, approachable to all, and a supportive leader! When Matt is not at work, he enjoys all kinds of art (painting, digital art, drawing, etc.), watching movies with his family, and going to concerts. A fun fact about Matt is that he was a mascot for several minor league teams in St. Charles. We are beyond thankful for Matt and all he does for Leaps and Bounds, let’s all wish Matt a very happy birthday!
