WE NEED YOUR HELP! You can change the outcome of someone's life by just clicking on the link and writing "I oppose the proposed rule." If you feel the urge to explain why PLEASE DO, but you must type that you oppose the rule!
Special interest groups want to phase out sheltered workshops all across the United States. Here locally that would affect 80 individuals at Ideal Industries in Richmond MO, and 150,000 individual nation wide.
Some untruths being spread by our opponents:
1. Sheltered workshops limit the workers' potential while using them as "cheap labor, confining them to a lifetime of poverty." The truth is that these individuals cannot expect to live off of their wages. They earn a commensurate wage (based off their production ability) and that wage is a very small fraction of the workers' financial support. So raising their wages at the sheltered workshop could cause them to lose much needed support (upwards of 6 figures for some) that they need for resources to live a productive, comfortable lifestyle.
2. Sheltered workshops create a segregated environment with disability-specific environments. Employees who CHOOSE to work in a sheltered workshop (yes it is always a choice!) are able to do so because they are working in a safe, accommodating, and modified environment. The choices that our opponents propose are already there! They don't blame on creating more! The employees at Ideal Industries are always encouraged to grow. If they want to go work in the community then their team at Ideal help that happen. But many are unable to do so, so without Ideal they aren't going to have a job and sense of community with their peers.
3. 14C program "devalue" the labor of disabled people, whom, they claim, are capable of working competitive, minimum-wage jobs, provided they have the proper support. The truth is sheltered workshops respect each individuals efforts and labors regardless of their "productivity". There are already 450 people on Missouri's waitlists to receive services. How big will that list grow if sheltered workshops are closed down? We lost services for our two ASD children last year with a promise to MAYBE get 1/6th of that back IF we are approved. We didn't get 50% of our services reimbursed from last year, so do you really think we are going to get anything this year? Our children are still young and we are lucky to be able to afford their need out of pocket, but that will not continue to be that way as they age.

The fact that this entire process is being based off the "wages" shows you how out of touch the lawmakers are with why we REALLY need sheltered workshops!
When our children are in school we need a team of people to help them become the best versions of themselves. A big fear of special needs parents is "what's going to happen to them after school?" Sheltered workshops, like Ideal Industries, give back that "team" to help these men and woman thrive in a world that isn't made for them. It softens the edges so that the square peg can better fit in the round hole...

Ce Goodall will be set up at our quarry Ray County Stone selling barbecue this week. He will be starting around 10:30 and going until 2:00. He’s going to have pulled pork sandwiches chips and drinks. It’s a perfect lunch for the working folks who don’t want to stop for a period of time. There’ll be a couple of tables with chairs in case you do want to stop and have a seat for a couple of minutes. Swing in and grab a bite. The quarry is located 1/2 mile north of 210 on the west side of EE. Come to the big open shop door as you pull up to the building you can’t miss him.

I’m in need of someone to do window tinting. They need to be mobile and able to come to the quarry. I have 2 or 3 machines that I’d like to have done.

On Tuesday we were lucky enough to have the Orrick Elementary 4th grade class out to Ray County Stone. We wanted to use this opportunity to show the students some of the careers that are available and explain the many steps it takes to make the aggregates that are needed to build and maintain our communities.
To start the field trip, we handed out a matching game that explained the many careers provided by a rock quarry. The Missouri Limestone Producers Association website does such a great job of providing kid-friendly, engaging material, and S&S Printing in Oak Grove, MO did a wonderful job at taking this information and creating booklets for the kids to use.
We used our aerial photos provided by Carter's Monuments in Richmond Mo to explain the different areas of the rock quarry that the class would be seeing, such as overburden, ledges, pits, stock piles, scale houses, heavy machinery, etc.
The kids were then able to safely observe from a distance a few of the steps that go into processing aggregates such as drilling, hauling rock to the crusher, washing rock, conveying the rock to stockpiles, trucking rock to the scales, and invoicing customers. We helped explain that each step can be it's own career and that those careers can include heavy equipment operators, dispatchers, program techs, mechanics, drillers, blasters, etc.
We ended the day providing a lunch and a few more fun activities from the MLPA website.
Thank you Orrick Elementary for the chance to showcase our business to this young generation!

This thing is a beast of a washer. The Astec 6026-19T CMW is one heck of a piece of equipment. This will wash in excess of 300 ton per hour of aggregate ranging between 3/8 up to 3.5”.
At Ray County Stone we focus on 2 very major areas, product quality and customer service and satisfaction. As we continue to look into the future and try to find solutions for issues as they arise we turn to our #1 go to for our processing equipment needs. The GW Van Kepple Company once again put the deal together for us on the CMW by securing it from another dealer in the Denver area. GW Van Kepple does business the old way, with the shake of a hand the CMW was loaded and headed in this direction and in our quarry to be unloaded and put together before noon today. I have a lot of good venders and a lot of good acquaintances but Rob Franklin, Bill Dooley and Krissy Lund and their team at GW Van Kepple just as Mike Craven Corey Strider and their awesome team at Goppert Financial Bank go above and beyond and they’ve put their trust and belief into us and helped us grow our company. Washed 3/4 and 1” products, washed 3/8” chat and in the future manufactured sand will be top ticket items at Ray County Stone. We will be the only option for true washed products in the area for many miles.
