Well dropping Mary off at therapy this morning was eventful and a first for us.
We pull up in front, I go to get her out at the curb and she says “I’m not going in there, we had a conversation earlier that I told you I didn’t want to go”. We had no such convo 😢. So I pulled into a spot and tried to talk. Then just realized if I drive around the parking lot and change the subject then she’ll forget and go inside.
It worked, only 10 min late but I just gotta trick that brain of hers sometimes 😊
Oh yeah……F**K CANCER!

Mary Zeiser- Williams has been smelling things that really aren’t there like burning candles, peppers & onions, etc. The doc thinks that may be a sign of mini seizures, so he is upping her keppra (anti-seizure med) and says we can just wait to confirm or deny with her next MRI first week of June 🙏🤞🍀

We had a fun time last night at Family Feud game night at The Marquee in New Town. Unfortunately this morning I asked Mary Zeiser- Williams if she remembered playing and she did not recall 😢 So I shared with her a funny answer she had and she was like “NO I didn’t say that”😝
The question was out of 100 people surveyed “What did you get your significant other on Valentine’s Day?” she said “Condoms” 😂 🤦‍♂️ 😜 And that was not on the board 😞 At least she still has her sense of humor!

On another note she started her next 3 week round/dose of chemo pills last night and knock on wood she had a good night, no issues.

This one has a funny story behind it, we have a great nieces 1st Communion coming up and she colored this one special for her 1st communion 🤣
I told her “NO, that is probably not appropriate” 😝 Not sure if you can read what she wrote, I’m not sure what all the numbers mean but she wrote “Please be a few years older before you start liking these” 🤦‍♂️
I will tear it out and give it to her parents this weekend to give to her maybe when she turns 18?!

No news is good news!!
Mary Zeiser- Williams is doing okay; getting the occasional headache, always tired & still memory/confusion issues. We should get her next 3 week round of chemo pills this week and she’s still doing Avastin infusions every 3 weeks. She gets her Bo***ES squished (mammal-aml-gram) in May, so I’m sure she be looking forward to that 😀 And then next MRI is in June.

I went for a quick motorcycle ride and to run a couple errands last night while Mary Zeiser- Williams slept in her recliner. Or so I thought she would be sleeping. She got up before I got home to get a drink, a chocolate protein shake. I saw the empty container in the trash can, so I assumed she drank it all. But I guess somewhere along the way she wanted it a little colder?
I found this in the freezer tonight when I went to make some dinner tonight😊
Guess she can have a shake tomorrow?

Good morning?
Well it’s going to be a long day!
We got up to use the bathroom this morning and afterwards she insisted on going downstairs to sleep in the chair. I told her she hasn’t done that in a long time but of course she said she just did it last night 🤦‍♂️
And of course she thought I was her ex again and said I can’t stay up here and sleep in the bed next to you.
So I just took a breath and helped her downstairs to her chair where hopefully she’ll get some sleep 🤞

I’m very guilty of unintentionally taking away her dignity 😢
I do love you Mary Zeiser- Williams ♥️ and I don’t mean to do this to you 😭
I know you don’t even remember what we talked about today, let alone yesterday or the day before.
I just feel like we are trying to hang on and we are losing our grip

I copied this from another post, it struck a cord in me:

There's a moment every caregiver feels but doesn't always say out loud:
You look at someone you love... and wonder, "Are they still in there?"
Dementia changes things.
Memory fades. Conversations shift. Familiar rhythms break. And fear steps in.

But here's what we need to understand-deeply:
The person is still there.
Not in the same way.
Not always in the ways we expect.
But still there.

When we rush, correct, or talk over them... we don't just lose connection— we unintentionally take away dignity.
Dignity is protected in how we show up:
Speaking with them, not about them. Slowing down instead of taking over. Holding onto who they are, not just what's changing
Hang on to that person.
They are still there.
And how we respond determines whether they feel it.
