British researchers have discovered a major driver of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and several other immune disorders that affect the spine (such as AS), liver and arteries, raising hopes for millions of people worldwide for new therapies. This involves a section of genes called the ETS2 gene-dessert section of DNA that behaves like a volume control for nearby genes.

ETS2—which is associated with inflammatory bowel disease, ankylosing spondylitis, primary sclerosing cholangitis and Takayasu’s arteritis—is a central regulator of human inflammatory macrophages.

New study finds the risk of three major mortality outcomes increases as the ratio of omega-6/omega-3 PUFAs increases. American get too much omega-6 in typical diet, which increases inflammation. Comparing the highest to the lowest quintiles, individuals with higher omega-6 ratio had 26% higher total mortality, 14% higher cancer mortality, and 31% higher CVD mortality. Also omega-3 and omega-6 PUFAs in plasma were all inversely associated with all-cause, cancer, and CVD mortality. See article:

Individuals with higher blood levels of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, especially omega-3, are less likely to die, either from any cause, cancer or cardiovascular disease.

New study, although slightly limited, indicates that for US adults higher olive oil (about 7g/day) intake was associated with a lower risk of dementia-related mortality. This has to do with amount of omega-3 in olive oil.

In US adults, higher olive oil intake was associated with a lower risk of dementia-related mortality, irrespective of diet quality. Beyond heart health, the findings extend the current dietary recommendations of choosing olive oil and other vegetable oils for cognitive-related health.

New hope for long-haul Covid. Transient Receptor Potential Melastatin 3 (TRPM3) ion channel dysfunction, a biomarker from natural killer (NK) cells used in diagnosis of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) patients had been found in long-haul Covid cases, and treatment to improve the ion channel has shown positive results. Naltrexone hydrochloride was used in this study. See first article listed.

Several natural nutraceuticals may activate the NK cells including vitamins A, B, C, D, and E, polysaccharides, lectins, and a number of phytochemicals, see second article.

Research scientists at Rice University, Texas A&M University and the University of Texas together have discovered a remarkable new way to destroy cancer cells. Stimulating aminocyanine molecules with near-infrared light caused them to vibrate in sync, enough to break apart the membranes of cancer cells. Whole-molecule vibrations of mechanical disruption of cancer cells were achieved using very low concentrations (500 nM) of aminocyanines with low doses of laser light (12 J cm−2, 80 mW cm−2 for 2.5 min), resulting in complete eradication of human melanoma cells in vitro.
