The first Friday in February is National Wear Red Day‼️

February is designated American ❤️ Month. We wear RED in order to raise and spread awareness about heart disease and stroke in women.

Call your mother, sister, cousin, niece, and friend - break out the RED lipstick, pants, dresses, shoes, scarves, or a favorite hat. Let’s paint our town RED!

We can’t wait to see your RED this Friday ❤️❤️❤️❤️‼️

To the women we have the privilege of caring for — and to those who may walk through our doors one day, there is something we want you to hear clearly:

*Your health is not secondary.
*Your symptoms are not an inconvenience.
*You are not “overreacting.”

Too often, women minimize what their bodies are trying to tell them. They delay appointments. Push through exhaustion. Explain away discomfort. We see it every day — strong, capable women carrying the weight of families, careers, and responsibilities while quietly placing themselves last.

But here is what we want you to remember:

❤️ Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in women.
And awareness — paired with prevention — saves lives.

So let this be your permission slip.
*Schedule the exam.
*Ask the questions.
*Advocate for yourself.
*Listen when your body whispers instead of waiting until it demands attention.

Caring for you is more than our profession — it is our purpose. And not just in February.

We are here for you, always.

— Dr. Janet Matuszek, Dr. Megan Mohrman, and Nurse Practitioners Julie Schweitzer, Angie Warner, and Marcy Haley

🌸 Puberty in Girls: What to Expect 🌸

Watching your daughter go through puberty can feel exciting… and a little confusing! Puberty is a big time of change—physically, emotionally, and socially. For girls, hormones like estrogen start driving growth, breast development, and eventually periods. Every child develops at their own pace, but the Tanner stages give a helpful guide.

Tanner Stages at a Glance:
• Stage 1: Prepuberty – no visible changes yet.
• Stage 2: Breast budding, small amount of p***c hair, slight growth spurt (ages 8–13).
• Stage 3: Breasts keep growing, p***c/underarm hair appears, growth spurt continues, skin may get oilier.
• Stage 4: Breasts mature further, areolas form a mound, periods usually start, p***c hair fills in.
• Stage 5: Full adult development – growth slows, breasts and p***c hair reach adult appearance. Most girls finish by 16–17.

Emotional ups and downs are normal! Mood swings, body image concerns, and social changes are part of growing up. ACOG recommends girls see a gynecologist between ages 13–15—even before their first period. Our providers can answer questions about growth, early or delayed changes, menstrual cycles, healthy habits, and emotional changes. Early visits help your child feel comfortable asking questions and getting guidance from a reliable source. Think of it as building trust and giving your daughter a safe place to ask anything!

💖 Puberty is a journey, and your support matters more than you know.

A new year is a powerful time to reflect and reset. Many women carry an invisible mental load—placing others first, minimizing their own needs, and pushing through instead of asking for support— at the same time moving past accomplishments without giving themselves credit.

Mental health is a vital part of overall health. As you look at this list, choose one or two patterns you recognize and begin the process of “unlearning” them this year. Small changes matter- meaningful change starts with small steps and support is available. You deserve care that includes your mind, your voice, and your well-being.

Happy New Year!

Consider this a doctor’s note from our office for your health, happiness, and sanity:

✨ Don’t put it down… put it away!
✨ If you drop it, pick it up.
✨ If you use it, return it.

💗 Start 2026 Strong: Preventive Health Appointments Every Woman Should Schedule 💗

Preventive care isn’t about waiting until something feels wrong—it’s about protecting your health at every stage of life. Many serious conditions have no early symptoms, and routine screenings allow issues to be caught early, when treatment is most effective. No matter your age, preventive care is one of the most important investments you can make in yourself.

As you start the new year, make your health a priority by scheduling these essential appointments:

◾️Gynecology (GYN) Visit
• Pap test starting at age 21
• HPV testing as recommended
• Breast exam and breast health discussions
• STI screening based on age and risk
• Birth control, menstrual, fertility, and hormone care

◾️Primary Care / Annual Wellness Visit
• Blood pressure, weight, BMI
• Cholesterol and diabetes screening
• Mental health, lifestyle, and safety check-ins

◾️Dermatologist / Skin Check
• Full-body skin exam, especially with sun exposure or changing moles

◾️Dental Appointment
• Cleaning and exam 1–2 times per year

◾️Eye Exam
• Routine vision and eye health screening

💗 Making time for preventive care means taking control of your health—not just for today, but for the years ahead. Start 2026 by putting yourself first. Your health deserves it.

Pregnancy brings many changes that are completely normal — even though they often catch people by surprise. Here are several medically expected, evidence-supported symptoms and experiences:

• Early fatigue + nausea
Caused by rising hCG and progesterone, which affect the immune and digestive systems.

• Mild cramping
A normal result of uterine growth and stretching ligaments, as long as it’s not severe or paired with heavy bleeding.

• Mood changes
Hormonal shifts affect neurotransmitters like serotonin, making emotional changes common and expected.

• Food aversions
More common than cravings and believed to help protect mom and baby.

• Increased discharge
Leukorrhea is normal and healthy due to increased estrogen and blood flow to the cervix.

• Pregnancy brain fog
Research shows measurable changes in the areas of the brain related to memory and multitasking.

• Mixed emotions or delayed bonding
Many people don’t feel connected right away — and there is no “right” timeline.

If you’re experiencing any of these, remember: you’re not alone, you’re not imagining it, and most of these changes are simply part of the body adapting to pregnancy.

If symptoms feel severe or concerning, always reach out to one of our providers — we’re here to help you feel supported, informed, and confident every step of the way.

What part of pregnancy surprised you the most — good or challenging?
