4 Phases of Chiropractic Care

1, Acute Care - getting patients out of crisis mode, reducing pain and symptoms
2. Corrective Care - correcting structural faults. Typically scoliotic curvatures that lead to continued symptoms long term
3. Mainenance Care - Preventing patients from becoming symptomatic again, usually weekly, biweekly, or monthly visits
4. Wellness Care - Healthy patients who keep regular visits to keep their nervous system healthy and are looking to prevent disease processes from beginning

The 3 legged stool of chiropractic care

#1 - Get adjustments in rhythm. Initially, when creating new muscle memory, adjustments may be more frequent depending on past medical history and current level of health

#2 - Support adjustments with specific exercises and stretches to strenghten and stabilize their spine and support their nervous system

#3 - Identify lifestyle factors that are creating the dysfunction. Poor posture, longtime sitting, old injuries, poor diet, lack of exercise, poor sleep quality, too much stress from work/life

We get asked frequently what consists of a "good" diet and where do I start?

If you've attempted any of the diets in the list above, then you know that ALL "diets" consist of one thing, sacrifice. We can't eat in excess. More so, we can't eat more calories than we burn in a day.

Are there food groups more nutrient dense, better glycemic load, and overall easier on the digestive system to process, absolutely. But if you are looking to break the scales and don't have diagnosable conditions that may prevent you from losing weight, stick to eating less.

If you don't want your skin to look oily and full of acne and don't want to have smelly gas/flatulence, avoid the foods prone to causing it.

Time and time again persons with chronically misaligned lumbosacral flexion will have poor deep core activation. In addition, this person typically exhibits extremely tight hips (abductors) and poor ankle range of motion (dorsiflexion).

I'll often see headaches accompany this as either a primary or tertiary cause for this.

This leads to pain when bending over, standing up from a seated position, and even reaching over to tie your shoes.

**The Fix** - get on the floor and push your fingers into you side belly and contract the muscle responsible for "pushing your low back into the groud". Once the contraction is felt, perform a series of curl ups with your head in a neutral position and lifting the shoulder blades off of the ground. Take your fingers and move them place to pace to feel the activation through different parts of the muscle.

Is your mouth open or closed right now?

Do find yourself breathing through your nose or through your mouth throughout the course of the day?

Mouth Breathers Beware!!

From the beginning of time, nasal breathing is the preferred method and only in recent centuries has the practice of mouth breathing occurred and with it, the new emerging chronic diseases of the civilized world.

Practice 5-10 minutes of nasal breathing. Start by inhaling in through your nose for 5-6 seconds, and exhaling through your mouth for 5-6-7-8 seconds. The longer the exhale, the better.

Practice daily for 1 week and see the changes that occur in just that time frame.

This is a great stretch and a great way to open up those forward rolled and rounded shoulders. You can use your leg as leverage to add more force to the stretch and open up your pectoral muscles.

Weight Lifters - Bulking ain't easy.
** Do this stretch for 90 seconds on each side the night before and upper body workout.**

Desk Sitters - Sitting is the new smokes
** Do this stretch every day to help with your neck and upper back symptoms.**
