Just leaving the operating room at St. Anthony’s and found this little turkey!

My family has been so wonderfully support of me this past year. Thanksgiving is my very favorite Holiday. Yes, even more than Christmas. Every year we go around the table and say what we are thankful for and I love love love it. I also really like to eat.

I’m going to be taking some much needed social media breaks from time to time for family. I’ll catch you in a few days, friends! In the meantime… write what you are most thankful for below and I’ll read them on the flip-side.

Alright . See if we can do our thing! Let’s get this message to our girl and . (Watch till the end!)

We have legislation to ensure coverage for patients. Taylor has spoken about her mother Andrea’s diagnosis with breast cancer and even wrote a song 🎶 “Soon you’ll get better.” ❤️‍🩹 It would be amazing to have their support of this bipartisan bill. Both sides of the aisle agree this is important!

And of course… thank you so very very much to and and for highlighting this bill and giving it a voice. I’m forever appreciative to you.
lagrone and thanks for believing that this bill and my patients are news worth covering.

Ok, team! We have some work to do! Let’s get this to Taylor and her team to see if Andrea would consider supporting this bill to update the Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act of 1998 sponsored by and .

The *absurdity* of hearing my phone ring and having to dash naked across my bathroom to grab the phone for a peer to peer bc if I miss the call I might miss the chance to defend why my patient whose breast reconstruction has been denied should be covered.

They don’t tell you when they are calling. I had to keep my phone on me all day today. Non-stop. So I don’t miss this chance for my patient.

The person on the other end told me that he hadn’t reviewed the file. That his partner had. But that she couldn’t get her surgery because it was cosmetic. That it didn’t describe any deformities.

So I read aloud my notes and the deformities mentioned. I explained why smaller implants had to be placed at the time of her prior surgery due to the blood supply and that she had a lot of extra skin laterally that was hanging. That this was NOT cosmetic but reconstructive.

I also stated the 1998 WHCRA law that mandates patients are cared for. He wasn’t familiar with it. I was happy to explain it. We also discussed the new bill that and have put forth to close insurance loopholes and make sure breast cancer patients only have to fight cancer and not insurance company’s. He wishes us luck.

I thanked him for his time and for doing the right thing and approving my patient’s surgery.

And now… to wash out the conditioner. Oh… and give the AWESOME news to my patient.

Congratulations to my friend DOCTOR on completing her PhD in biomedical sciences at USF!Oh…And wait for it…Launching on...

My response to the confusion regarding the Advancing Women’s Health Coverage Act.

The legislative process can be very confusing! And I’m here to help explain it. That’s part of my job.

Our number one priority is ensuring that patients get access to ALL types of breast reconstruction coverage. Period.

And we do that by working collaboratively with stakeholders and having sometimes hard conversations.

Over the next few months you will see some edits happening. This is all part of the process. If you have questions or concerns please reach out and engage! We work best as a team.

You guys know my philosophy… positivity always wins. So here’s to being positive and making a huge difference!

Thank you and all the amazing groups that support patients that have and are at risk for having breast cancer.

👅 Who knows what this is? 😋
Only around 5% of the population in the US have this and I found this on a patient this week. These deep grooves called can vary from 2-6mm.

It is called 𝗙𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗲. Other names include: lingua plicata, furrowed tongue, and yes even 𝘀 𝗰 𝗿 𝗼 𝘁 𝗮 𝗹 𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗲!

This is a benign finding although it can be associated with:
•geographic tongue (where there are color variations on the surface)
•Melkersson-Rosenthal Syndrome
•Cowden’s Syndrome
•Down syndrome
•psoriasis

It’s more common in men and the probability of having it increases with age. No treatment is needed but meticulous dental hygiene is recommended to keep food particles out.

Thank you to my patient for sharing!

Just cleared my breast reconstruction patient to resume normal activities. Was not expecting to see this on instragram! Praying those implants stay where I put them! 🤣

lol but in all seriousness, she has approval and is doing great. And you should go work out with her at .

*video re-shared with permission.

And if I tried any of those poses I would need a different kind of surgery.

Behind every movement there is an inspiration. Rachel was mine.

𝙔𝙤𝙪’𝙧𝙚 𝙜𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙤 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙬𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙚 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮…📖

has been working for years to improve access to . 2 days before Christmas last year I had to call Rachel about an insurance denial. The mesh that was already in her body was getting denied.

Rachel and other patients were brave enough to share their stories which helped contribute (efforts of many were already underway) to a major insurance company reversing their policy for the ENTIRE United States on mesh coverage of P4HB . This happened in only 4️⃣ short months.

And this week a bipartisan bill was introduced by Rep. Kat Cammack and Rep. Debbie Dingell to ensure patients get appropriate care and coverage of breast reconstruction and prostheses following surgery.

We threw out the idea of giving the bill which is named “The Advancing Women’s Health Coverage Act” a nickname. The video at the beginning is my reaction right after throwing out the idea of naming it after Rachel in a meeting. The video to follow is Reporter .lagrone with interviewing Rachel about the possibility of it being named after her. At that point none of us knew if it would happen and that portion of the story might not have aired.

But the nickname was approved. And Rachel found out when she watched the segment with her family as it aired across the state of Florida.

𝗜𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘄𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲.

Because imagine what all of our voices can do together.
