Exciting News!

In November 2024, Dr. Isakson became a Faculty Member with the BayCare | St. Joseph’s Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program.

Since then, he has truly enjoyed teaching Internal Medicine (IM) residents in our outpatient clinic about the specialty of Allergy & Immunology. The residents also gain valuable experience working with pediatric patients - an opportunity they don’t typically receive in a standard IM residency.

During their rotation, Dr. Isakson also covers key topics on the business side of medicine, an area that’s often overlooked in traditional ACGME-accredited training programs.

We’ve already welcomed the next cohort of IM residents for 2025 and remain committed to expanding educational opportunities in our unique field of care!

North Star Allergy, Asthma & Immunology clinic is led by Dr. Isakson, a physician who is board-certified in both Allergy-Immunology and Pediatrics.
This dual certification allows us to provide specialized care for patients of all ages, with a unique advantage in treating pediatric allergy and immunology concerns — a population that often requires different approaches and communication styles than adults.
Dr. Isakson’s board certification in Pediatrics provides an important added layer of expertise, especially when treating infants, children, and adolescents. This pediatric background allows for developmentally appropriate care, greater comfort for young patients, and better outcomes through early allergy management.

Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT) drops offer several benefits for treating allergies:

1. Convenience
At-home treatment: Unlike allergy shots, SLIT drops are taken at home, eliminating the need for frequent clinic visits.

Easy administration: Just place a few drops under the tongue, hold for a minute or two, and swallow—no needles involved!

2. Safety
Lower risk of severe reactions: SLIT has a lower risk of anaphylaxis compared to allergy shots.

Generally milder side effects: Side effects are often local and temporary.

3. Effectiveness
Long-term relief: It can provide lasting relief even after treatment ends, especially when taken consistently over 3–5 years.

Treats the root cause: SLIT modifies the immune response to allergens rather than just masking symptoms.

4. Child-friendly
No Injections! This may be a preferred route for some kids with allergies who have concerns with getting allergy shots.

5. Wide allergen coverage
Customizable: Drops can be tailored to treat multiple allergens simultaneously (i.e., pollen, dust mites, pet dander).

6. Improved quality of life
Fewer symptoms, less medication: Over time, patients often report reduced allergy symptoms and decreased need for antihistamines or nasal sprays.
