Infrared light helps stimulate cellular activity, optimizing the cell’s ability to regenerate or repair themselves. Infrared light also improves the circulation of oxygen-rich blood in the body, promoting faster healing of deep tissues and relieving pain - including chronic pain. In a 2006 double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, the infrared therapy demonstrated to be effective in reducing chronic low back pain by 5% over the course of six weeks with no observed adverse effects.

Taro is a certified therapy dog under the Alliance of Therapy Dogs who cofounded St Pete Dry Needling in January of 2022 with his owner, Tania. He graduated therapy dog training in 2017 and has since worked in a variety of settings including hospitals, nursing homes, schools/universities, and outpatient clinics with patients ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics and everything in between. In his free time he enjoys going to the dog park, taking long walks, swimming (with the help of a doggie life vest), kayaking/paddle boarding, accompanying his mom to their local CrossFit gym, and hanging with his friends at The Dog Bar.

Dr. Tania Schmitfranz is a doctor of physical therapy who recently opened her own clinical practice, St Pete Dry Needling, in January of 2022. She received her Bachelor's degree in International Business & Economics and her Master's degree in Public Health from the University of Arkansas, then went on to complete her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at the University of Florida. She has clinical experience in various settings, working with an assortment of populations such as professional/collegiate athletes, US Army special operators, amputees, Parkison's disease, and post-surgical patients. Dr. Schmitfranz specializes in sports and orthopedics, holding certifications in Advanced Dry Needling, Graston, Functional Movement Screening, Kinesio/Rock Taping, and USA Weightlifting. Her interests outside of work include Olympic weightlifting, crossfit, sand volleyball, hiking, and paddle boarding with her dog Taro.

How does cupping work?

There isn’t yet a lot of research on the therapy as experts are still exploring how exactly it is that cupping eases pain and disease symptoms. However, what we do know from a basic physiological perspective is: suction from cupping draws fluid into the treated area, this suction force expands and breaks open tiny blood vessels (capillaries) under the skin causing a bruising response (ecchymosis), as a result, your body treats the cupping area like an injury and sends more blood to the area to stimulate the natural healing process. Cupping is one of the many services offered by St Pete Dry Needling as a part of their Recovery & Performance Package.
