It's time for a rant 😅
I am sick to death of people who claim AA/NA is the only way to get and stay sober, and they shun anyone who hasn't used a 12 step program! This is not only judgemental AF but it's entirely incorrect and a very close minded and harmful point of view! I'm not meaning to offend anyonwe but it seems some of those in AA are the most judgemental people in recovery! Those of us that don't use a 12 step program don't go around telling people in AA that they'll fail! Because how the heck is that supportive?
I tried AA in the first few months of my sobriety and it just wasn't for me! I'd leave a meeting feeling worse off and wanting to drink!! When I decided to leave AA, I was told by members that it was because I was deeply character flawed, unwilling to do the work, must not be a “real alcoholic”, and I'd never stay sober without AA. I'm now over 11 years sober with not one single relapse! Sadly, I can't say the same for most of the people that I met in AA. And I did do the work! I worked through my trauma and issues with a qualified psychologist and psychiatrist.
I do not care how you get and stay sober, all I care is that you do! And I'll support anyone in whatever method they choose! Why? Because for most of us, our lives literally depend on it and I am not going to be the person that drives a fellow addict away from recovery! Whilst AA did not work for me, I will never tell someone else not to try it because I know it works for some and each to their own!
So, can we please stop judging others on how they choose to recover??? We get enough judgement as it is being addicts, we don't need judgement from each other too!! If I do see comments claiming AA/NA is the only way and shunning people for using a different recovery method, I will shut that conversation down quicker than a kid shoves down cake!! This page is inclusive for all and a safe environment and I will not allow anything less than that!
Rant over 🙃
