Our 2nd annual patient reunion was a fabulous event earlier this month! Our team absolutely loves this day as we invite all of our rehab “grads” back to visit us and share in their continued progress and joy with our team! So many happy tears were shed and hugs were had! We are forever grateful to our patients for trusting us as a partner in their journey to recovery. ❤️‍🩹

Silver, a 53 year old local landscaper was admitted to St. Joseph’s Hospital in mid June with weakness and
pain found to have a cervical spine tumor called an ependymoma. He underwent surgery to resect the
tumor along with laminectomy from C2-C5. When he admitted to our Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) here
at Kindred, Silver was dependent for bathing, dressing, toileting, and walking. Our team welcomed him with open arms and provided the intensity of therapy necessary for him to have a chance of getting back home. His insurance had restrictions on how much time he could stay in rehab, so we were mindful of that limitation and given his drive and motivation, worked with him over the usual amount of time per day and days per week to help him achieve his goals.
He worked tirelessly with his team of rehab nurses, doctors, and therapists and was able to go home with
use of a rollator able to walk independently and manage his activities of daily living with minimal
supervision for safety. Silver is an inspiration to us and we wish him continued wellness at home!

Barbara was admitted to our gorgeous acute rehabilitation unit (ARU) for recovery following a below the knee amputation (BKA) performed at St. Anthony’s Hospital. Her family chose our rehab due to having had great experiences with Kindred in years past with other family members and due to the proximity to home with the patient literally able to see her neighborhood across the water!! We are situated right on the Tampa Bay waterfront in downtown St. Petersburg.

When Barbara first arrived, she needed staff to help her transfer out of bed to her chair, get dressed,
shower, and she was unable to walk. With her motivation and determination to get back home, the
expertise of our team, and the support of her family, Barbara was able to go home with newly learned skills to manage her amputation to be able to mobilize and manage her activities of daily living with just minimal assistance and supervision for safety.
Our interdisciplinary team treats a variety of diagnoses and provides individualized therapy for three + hours daily to help patients achieve their goals towards independence. We are happy to welcome you to our unit and encourage you to come see for yourself our campus and meet our staff!

Inpatient rehabilitation looks at the whole person when developing a recovery plan and involves multiple medical team members, including physical medicine rehabilitation, physiatrists, rehabilitation nurses, social workers, case managers, and physical, occupational and speech therapists. We use rigorous improvement measures to track patient outcomes.
