If you have been here, you know how we feel about temperature therapies. Depending on the state of your tissue, one must be more beneficial than the other at the time but when used together to bring relief and speed up recovery, baby that’s where the magic is.

This season, over 1000 teams competed in USTA tennis matches and this weekend was the women’s Nationals tennis event in Lake Nona, FL. We saw this team top their local tampa bay league this winter, to then win the Florida Sectionals in May, then represented Florida in the US Nationals event this past weekend. Our amazing Tampa Bay team beat 2 undefeated teams in the finals to bring home the gold and become the National Champions for the 8.0 division! Congratulations Melanie, to you and all the ladies on your team! It’s been amazing watching you advance this year and we are beyond proud to be a part of your team.

I am writing this post to announce a leave of absence for myself, Teresa until May 15th 2023. If you have an appointment with me before this time, we will be reaching out to you directly as well. If you are on a reoccurring appointment cycle, everything will resume when I return to the clinic.
If you want to book with Devon, she will be available with a more flexible schedule for the next week while I am out of the office. If you have not yet tried a SET or breath work session with Devon, now is a good time!
And finally, If you prefer to be rescheduled because this is the only appointment you have, I will reach out to you about getting on my calendar again when I return.
You are also free to check online to see both calendars for Devon and I for the next 8 weeks. Please reach out if you have any questions. I will put links below.
I know you all understand how important my work with each and every one of you is to me. I pray for your grace and sympathy as I take some time to say good bye to and grieve the loss of my life companion and best friend of 11 years, Roxxana. I take a lot of pride in being fully present with you in our appointments and now I must be fully present with her.
At the same time, we have some big announcements soon for the summer that I will share with you upon my return. Please stick to your recovery routines. Do your stretches and releases and please please stay hydrated while you keep me in your warm thoughts and prayers. I need them so much.
Thank you friends, for everything and see you soon. Teresa

First I just want to say a shout out to our distance runners doing races over the past weekend and this coming week. We are so proud of you!
And wow. I’ve been missing this comp energy, what a weekend this was! It was such a blast this year being at the 2022 Tampa Bay Fitness Expo . We made a load of new friends, connected with a ton of our fellow vendor friends as well as our athletes, and got some amazing healing work done with tons of goodies! We were wiped out by the end but it was our absolute honor to assist in facilitating your wellness and here is the recap followed by some throw back photos for past years.
Thanks to our friends and athletes who came out and said hello or dropped a fist bump! It was such a great time!

“When she applied to run in the Boston Marathon in 1966 they rejected her saying: “Women are not physiologically able to run a marathon, and we can’t take the liability.”
Then 50 years ago, on the day of the marathon, Bobbi Gibb hid in the bushes and waited for the race to begin. When about half of the runners had gone past she jumped in.
She wore her brother’s Bermuda shorts, a pair of boy’s sneakers, a bathing suit, and a sweatshirt. As she took off into the swarm of runners, Gibb started to feel overheated, but she didn’t remove her hoodie. “I knew if they saw me, they were going to try to stop me,” she said. “I even thought I might be arrested.”
It didn’t take long for male runners in Gibb’s vicinity to realize that she was not another man. Gibb expected them to shoulder her off the road, or call out to the police. Instead, the other runners told her that if anyone tried to interfere with her race, they would put a stop to it. Finally feeling secure and assured, Gibb took off her sweatshirt.
As soon as it became clear that there was a woman running in the marathon, the crowd erupted—not with anger or righteousness, but with pure joy, she recalled. Men cheered. Women cried.
By the time she reached Wellesley College, the news of her run had spread, and the female students were waiting for her, jumping and screaming. The governor of Massachusetts met her at the finish line and shook her hand. The first woman to ever run the marathon had finished in the top third. She would go on to complete the race a total of six more times.

🔎A great image from a 2011 study (cited below) that demonstrates the power exercise has on preserving muscle mass as we age.

🧠In these axial MRI views of the thigh (imagine cutting the thigh in half and looking at a cross-section), we can see the increased degree of adipose/fat and muscle atrophy in the sedentary man as compared to that of the triathlete of similar age.

✅Pretty convincing evidence to maintain a regular exercise program throughout your lifespan!

Compensation issues arise from holding patterns in the nervous system that have been learned due to stress, posture, and injury. Your detailed intake at Elevated includes a look at compensation so that we can get a bigger picture of what and why something is happening. Many times, I find compensation patterns that people never realized they had. Addressing these with manual soft tissue therapy, stretching, and strength training will make a huge improvement in your pain relief and mobility goals! Dm us or comment for any questions on compensation!

If you are a current or curious client, someone needing to rehab an injury, or an athlete in the St. Petersburg area, this post is for you:

Going into the new year, I am planning to grow the wellness services that I offer through Elevated and expand into an Athletic Recovery Clinic.

I have made up a survey to try and gauge what additional treatments you all would like to experience and I value your input immensely. This survey shouldn't take more than 5 minutes.

Thank you!
