Dear Residents and Families,

Thank you for your continued partnership. Here are the recent updates.

Pasadena Construction:
Our new Florida Operations Specialist, Karen Arway, and Regional Vice President of Operations, David Acuff, toured the Pelican and Dolphin Towers with the Pasadena team on April 22. Karen and David were able to see firsthand the new elevators and the completely renovated elevator pits. As many of you know, the community elevators were in bad need of replacements. These new sleek beauties are state-of-the-art with the added feature of voice announcements. What’s next…“Beam me up Scotty?” Check out our “sneak peek” photos of the new elevators!

Elevator system updates and mechanical work are proceeding on schedule. The Dolphin building elevators are scheduled for work May 5th through May 19th. As a reminder, the elevators will be out of service during these timeframes. We will need to reschedule residents and movers who may be affected. If you need to reschedule, please email us at evacinfo@barclayseniorliving.com or call us at 727-381-5411.

Meet the Regional Team:
Our series featuring members of Pasadena’s permanent regional team continues featuring our Florida Operations Specialist, Karen Arway.

Karen serves as the Operations Specialist for Florida communities, where she plays a vital role in driving operational success across multiple locations. Her responsibilities span key areas such as sales support, human resources, licensure compliance, daily operations, and census development. Karen works closely with community teams to ensure adherence to corporate policies, regulatory standards, and annual budgets.

With a deep commitment to excellence, Karen’s focus is on optimizing operational performance while enhancing the quality of life for residents, supporting families, and meeting the needs of team members. Her role is pivotal in ensuring that each community not only functions efficiently but also fosters a culture of care, compliance, and continuous improvement.

With over 30 years of experience in the senior living industry, Karen has built a distinguished career dedicated to enhancing the lives of seniors through compassionate care and operational excellence. After earning her nursing degree in the 1990s, Karen began her career as a per diem nurse at an assisted living community. Her passion for improving senior care led her to further her education in Healthcare Administration in 2002, transitioning into senior living operations.

Throughout her career, Karen has held a variety of key leadership roles, including Executive Director, Operations Specialist, Regional Director of Operations, and Vice President of Operations. Over the last 30 years, she has made significant contributions to senior living organizations by driving operational efficiencies, improving resident satisfaction, and leading high-performing teams.

A dedicated advocate for the senior living industry, Karen has been an active member of Argentum, the leading national association for resident-centered senior living communities, for over 10 years. She has served on Argentum’s Executive Roundtable for the past three years, collaborating with fellow industry leaders to discuss policy changes, industry challenges, and best practices to continually advance the sector.

Dear Residents and Families,

Thank you for your continued partnership. Here are the recent updates.

Pasadena Construction:
Unit renovations in the Dolphin Tower are currently a focus. “Bid walks” with contractors are happening this week, with bids for unit renovations due by May 2nd. The goal is to renovate every vacant unit in this Tower before the end of the year.

If you still have furniture or other items in your apartments and would like to take advantage of complimentary moving services to anywhere in Florida, please call 727-381-5411.

Elevator system updates and mechanical work continues in the Pelican Building and is proceeding on schedule. Work should be completed by April 28th. The Dolphin building elevators are scheduled for work May 5th through May 19th. As a reminder, the elevators will be out of service during these timeframes, and we will need to reschedule residents and movers who may be affected. Meet the Regional Team:
Our series featuring Pasadena’s permanent regional team members continues, and this week, we will feature our Florida Regional Vice President of Sales, Paula Dorsey. Paula joined the QSLM family in October 2018. Since then, she has served in many roles, including Director of Sales, Interim Executive Director, and Regional Vice President of Operations. Paula’s primary responsibility is to support our sales leaders as they work with each family during their decision and journey to move into one of our beautiful communities. We know this represents a new chapter for most families, and it can be a difficult decision. Our goal is to be your trusted resource as you navigate the world of independent and assisted living or memory care.

Paula’s background includes 30 years in the real estate business, co-owning a real estate company before transitioning to QSLM. She is passionate about ensuring that QSL Management’s core values and standards of excellence are continuously upheld. She enjoys mentoring others and hearing the stories of the many families that call one of our Blake and Barclay communities their home. When not working, Paula enjoys traveling, exploring wineries, finding great local live music and coffee shops, and spending time with her family and friends.

Thank you for your continued partnership as we rebuild the Pasadena community together.

Dear Residents,

We wanted to keep you informed about some important work happening with our elevators. As of March 31st, we’ve started sealing the elevator pits for the Pelican Building 4-stop elevator. The following week, beginning Monday, April 7th, we’ll begin sealing the pits for the 2-stop elevator. Each hydraulic elevator pit will take approximately one week to complete.

For the Pelican Building, the elevator pits are larger, which means it will take about two weeks to complete sealing them. We’re scheduled to work on the guest elevators in the Pelican Building from April 14th to April 28th. Afterward, we will move on to seal the guest elevator pits in the Dolphin Building, from May 5th through May 19th.

As a result of this work, the elevators will be out of service during these timeframes, and we will need to reschedule residents and movers who may be affected. If you need to reschedule, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

If you have any questions or need further information, please feel email us at evacinfo@barclayseniorliving.com or call us at 727-381-5411.

Dear Residents and Families,

Thank you for your continued partnership. Here are the recent updates.

Pasadena Construction:
Regional Vice President of Operations David Acuff visited the community and was able to see first-hand the construction progress. David and the Pasadena team toured the two towers and even went on top of the Dolphin Tower to observe preparations for the installation of the new roof. All roofing materials are on-site, and work will begin this week. While the elevators are not fully functional and need system updates, we are able to use one elevator at a time on a limited basis in each tower. Power has not been restored, and the construction/renovation teams are using generators in the interim.

David also visited The Barclay of Sarasota and Boynton Beach. He met with the leadership at each community and had the opportunity to meet many of the team and several Pasadena residents. David enjoyed reuniting with residents who had been evacuated to LPGA immediately following Hurricane Milton!

David listened to the concerns expressed by many residents. These concerns are being addressed, and we will continue updating you on the progress at Pasadena.

Meet the Regional Team:
In the last update, we announced the team members of Pasadena’s permanent regional team, and we wanted this update to begin a series featuring information about each individual team member. In this update, we will feature the Regional Vice President of Operations, David Acuff.

His focus in leading in providing guidance and support community managers is to foster a positive environment for both residents and teams. Additionally, he is responsible for budgeting, financial performance, and implementing best practices in service delivery as well as promoting QSL Management’s mission, values, and commitment to excellence, safety, and security.

David has worked in Senior living since 2015 serving in multiple leadership roles, including Executive Director, Area Director of Operations and Regional Vice President of Operations. David is a 30-year Navy Veteran with more than three decades of experience in healthcare leadership. Q& A:
How do I obtain access to my belongings?
Email evacinfo@barclayseniorliving or call (727) 381-5411 to schedule an appointment to access your property. A staff member will review the safety protocols for movement within the building. A waiver must be reviewed and signed by all individuals prior to being granted entry into the community on their scheduled date and time.

Thank you for your continued partnership as we work to rebuild the Pasadena community together.

Dear Residents and Families,

Thank you for your continued partnership. We are sending two brief updates this week.

Pasadena Construction
We continue to work through many external factors, including insurance approvals on bids, permitting, material lead times, and inspections. At this point, we are confident that Pasadena will reopen in the first quarter of 2026. We are working to provide a more exact date and will continue communicating as we progress on construction and permitting.

New Regional Team
During the transition period, we announced that the transition team was in place to support the community’s changeover from one management company to the next and that once certain milestones were reached, the transition team would be replaced by a permanent, experienced regional team that’s specifically dedicated to this community.

That change is happening now, and we’re excited to introduce your new regional team:
- Regional Vice President of Operations – David Acuff, David.acuff@qslmseniorliving.com

- Regional Vice President of Sales – Paula Dorsey, Paula.dorsey@qslmseniorliving.com

- Regional Vice President of Wellness – Rosemary Osei-Wusu, Rosemary.osei-wusu@qslmseniorliving.com

- Regional Director of Facilities Management – Mark Deep, Mark.deep@qslmseniorliving.com

David, along with his team, will be visiting your community in the next several weeks to introduce themselves and spend time with you. We want to thank Estella Bowers and Chad Carnes from the Transition Team for doing a great job leading this community into the QSLM family. Estella and Chad have met with the new regional team for several days to ensure a smooth transition; however, they will continue to make themselves available for any questions David and the team may have.
As always, thank you for your continued partnership. We wish everyone a great weekend.

Dear Residents & Families,
Thank you for your patience on this latest communication. We’ve been waiting on additional information from the various parties involved in Pasadena construction so that we can finally provide at least some clarity on re-opening expectations.

Based on what we now know, re-opening will likely occur in the first quarter of 2026.

This is much further out than many of us had been hoping. While the construction team is striving to accelerate the timeline, there are a lot of external factors dictating the process that they continue to work through, such as insurance approval of various subcontractor bids, city and state permitting, material lead times, and various inspections.

We understand that some of you who were planning to move back to the Pasadena community won’t be able to wait this long and will need to look for other options. While we are heartbroken about that, we want to be an information resource to you in any way we can. Please call (727)381-5411 if we can be of assistance. Amber Sweeney (Director of Sales), Denise Sutherland (Director of Business Development), and Wesley Paul (Move-In Coordinator) are standing by.

Most of you have already accessed your apartments and moved belongings, but if you still need to do that, please call that same number or write to evacinfo@barclayseniorliving.com to schedule a time.

We will continue to push forward with urgency and to keep you updated as we narrow down to a more specific re-opening date. Thank you again for your patience and partnership throughout this challenging process.

02/08/2025

Dear Residents and Families,

We sincerely appreciate those who requested additional email updates. We had temporarily paused them based on feedback regarding content relevance, but we recognize the importance of maintaining consistent and transparent communication. Moving forward, we will continue providing these updates on a regular basis.

Support for Residents
Our onsite team is available to assist you and your families, whether you need help retrieving belongings, scheduling a visit, or getting updates on your apartment.

Since January 1, we have completed 124 item and furniture retrievals for residents. Additional appointments are scheduled throughout February. If you have not yet scheduled a time to collect your items, please reach out so we can coordinate a convenient time.

Additionally, if you would like an update on the condition of your apartment, we can arrange a FaceTime or video chat so you can view your apartment remotely. If you prefer to visit in person, please get in touch with us in advance to schedule an appointment. This allows us to ensure a team member is available to es**rt you safely through the construction area.

Construction Updates
We now have full Architectural and Engineering drawings for reconstruction, and all drywall work has been completed. Our General Contractor now needs permits from the City to proceed with major mechanical, plumbing, and electrical work. We’re currently dealing with insurance to finalize what will be covered and what won’t, at which point permitting will begin. We are told that we will finally have a comprehensive construction schedule next week. We understand and very much share the frustration of not having better visibility into the re-open timeline. We are pushing daily in order to get that clarity, and we will send an update the moment we do.

Thank you as always for your patience and partnership through this challenge. Please reach out if you have questions or if we can be of service to you in any way.

Dear Residents, Families, and Friends,

We appreciate your continued patience as we work to ensure a smooth and safe process for removing personal items and furniture from individual apartments. If you haven't yet removed your furniture and would like to, please email evacinfo@barclayseniorliving.com or call (727) 381-5411. A member of our team will work with you to schedule a time as well as review the safety protocols for movement within the building.

Thank you again for your understanding and cooperation!

01/07/2025

Dear Residents, Families, and Friends,

Thank you for your patience and partnership as we work out a plan to safely remove personal items and furniture from individual apartments. As you may know, we have engaged an approved and insured vendor to deliver furniture from Pasadena to residents residing at our Sarasota and Boynton Beach communities. For residents who have chosen to relocate elsewhere, we are relieved to announce that we can now allow you to retrieve personal items and furniture yourselves, provided certain guidelines are followed.

Scheduling:
Due to safety regulations, retrieval must occur at an approved scheduled time. To schedule, please email us at evacinfo@barclayseniorliving.com or call us at (727) 381-5411.

Permitted Areas:
We have established a designated path from the entrance to the elevator and from the elevator to the specific apartments that have been scheduled for retrieval. Movement within the building must be within these designated areas.

Waiver Requirement:
All individuals must review, sign, and date a waiver prior to being granted entry into the community on their scheduled date and time.

We understand how frustrating it’s been to have such limited access to your belongings for an extended period. Safety and regulatory issues have made providing this access challenging. However, these guidelines have been created to allow access while still ensuring regulatory compliance. We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding, and cooperation. Please reach out if you have any questions.

Community Access Waiver:

12/24/2024

Dear Residents and Families,
We at QSL hope you are having a warm and festive holiday season. Below are the latest updates.

Furniture:
For Pasadena residents who have relocated to The Barclay at Sarasota, we are providing complimentary rental furniture. Delivery of rental furniture started this week and will be completed by December 26, 2024. For Pasadena residents who have relocated to The Barclay at Boynton Beach, we are offering a complimentary moving service to relocate your existing furniture. For those of you who have expressed interest in having furniture delivered from your Pasadena apartment to Boynton Beach, that delivery will begin later this week and will continue over the coming weeks. We are finalizing the scheduling and logistics, so if you have not done so already, please let us know if you would like to utilize this furniture relocation service.

Pasadena Construction:
The completion of insurance-approved bids from subcontractors is ongoing. Like you, we are anxiously awaiting further clarity on the expected timeline. The current plan is not only to restore the buildings to pre-loss condition but also to upgrade certain common areas. As a result, the project managers must get bids for both insurance coverage purposes as well as for scope that goes beyond what insurance is willing to cover (and which will be paid for out-of-pocket). Although this adds to the expense and challenge, we believe it is important to provide returning residents with an enhanced environment.

As we mentioned, this communication is now going out every other week. However, we will immediately write (and post on social media) whenever we get new information on construction timelines or other substantive updates.

Happy holidays and thank you again for your partnership as we move forward together. Please reach out if you have any questions.

12/11/2024

Dear Residents and Families,
Thank you for taking the time to stay informed during this transition time. Moving forward, we are changing the cadence of this communication from weekly to every other week. However, we will always write (and post on social media) immediately whenever we get new information on construction timelines or other substantive updates.

Resident Agreements: All meetings and communications with residents and families regarding Resident Agreement Amendments have now occurred. We appreciate your willingness to work with us to get this across the finish line. If you have not had the opportunity to discuss your questions or concerns regarding your new agreement, please contact us immediately.

Furniture: We have partnered with a local furniture vendor in Sarasota that has multiple warehouses full of furniture for Pasadena residents living at The Barclay at Sarasota. We have secured that furniture, and you should begin to see deliveries in the next seven to ten days. We are also working diligently on a furniture plan for Pasadena residents residing in The Barclay at Boynton Beach.

Pasadena Generator and WiFi: We have encountered a loss of generator power and WiFi in the community this week due to building infrastructure issues, which is affecting our ability to receive and send communications from the community. If you have contacted someone at the Pasadena community and have not heard back, please understand that we will be in touch as we continue to work through those communication issues.

Pasadena Construction: The completion of insurance-approved bids from subcontractors is ongoing, so we are still awaiting a master schedule. Though we understand the complexity of this stage of work, we are extremely anxious to receive this information, as we know you are. We will write with an update as soon as we receive one.

Thank you again for your partnership as we move forward together. Please reach out if you have any questions.

12/04/2024

Dear Residents and Families,
We are hopeful that you had a good Thanksgiving and are looking forward to a happy holiday season. We have contacted all of you during the last several weeks—thank you for signing new QSL agreements or detailing your intentions as we move forward. Below are some incremental updates for this week.

Resident Agreements
All amendment meetings and communication with residents and families have taken place. Thank you for your willingness to work with us on getting this across the finish line.

Furniture
We have partnered with a local furniture vendor in Sarasota that has multiple warehouses full of furniture for Pasadena residents living at The Barclay at Sarasota. We are working on a timeline for delivery with the intent to have the furniture at the community before the Christmas holidays. We are also working diligently on a furniture plan that would assist us with providing furniture to the Boynton Beach residents from Pasadena.

Pasadena Construction
The General Contractor is currently procuring insurance-approved bids from subcontractors. We are expecting to receive a master schedule soon and will communicate to you any timeline projections we receive.

Thank you again for your partnership as we move forward together. Please reach out if you have any questions.
