Last week my dear, old friend, Kevin, made a post allowing his friends to ask him anything from a list of questions that he could uniquely answer as a transgender person. Since only about 1.14% of the population in the US identifies as transgender, that tells me that MANY people don't know a trans person, personally.

I thought it was very brave to open up and answer questions for people who are curious or would like to understand their fellow humans better. I asked, "What worries you most as a trans person right now?" And this was his answer.

How silly is it that so many issues that we have as a country are being projected and blamed onto a group of people who only make up such a small percentage of Americans? Trans people are not doing the things being suggested. You are being made to believe they are a harmful group and they are not. Trans people just want to exist. The group is a scapegoat for the long list of other people who are actually doing what they are accusing trans people of.

Don't let people insult your intelligence by believing in the crazy things they are suggesting. You are smarter than that and can find the actual answer by going to someone who can speak from experience. Thank you for reading. And thank you !💖🏳️‍⚧️

Join us for the Sacred Shift Summit! We’ll take a deep dive into the power dynamics that often play out in spiritual communities, especially when certain personalities are drawn to leadership roles for unhealthy reasons.

Dr. Sally says, “In this Summit, we're also going to look at how that plays out in spiritual communities because we understand a lot more now about personality disorders, and we'll look a little bit at that. We'll explore how certain personalities, especially what we call cluster Bs in therapy, are attracted to positions of power where they can manipulate audiences and gather lots of attention, adulation, money, and sometimes even s*x. Often, that's a male teacher with hundreds of female followers. They're naturally very devotional, generous, and trusting—and are often, sadly, taken advantage of.

So that power dynamic between a narcissistic personality disordered leader and audiences that can sometimes fall into codependence, that's the dynamic we'll look at. And that can be in families, in politics, and in spiritual organizations.”

Ready to explore how these dynamics affect spiritual communities and beyond? Join us on October 26th, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST. Visit https://www.stacypiccolo.com/sacred-shift to secure your spot and get a FREE gift!

We’ll dive into one of the most crucial conversations of our time—how power is abused and how we can move forward in healthier, more equitable ways. Join us at the Sacred Shift Summit and hear Dr. Sally Adnams-Jones unpack how power maintains privileges for some while stripping them from others and explore how we can all be part of a positive shift.

“It's such a central topic of conversation right now, Stacy. The abuse of power is showing up and being disclosed, which is a good thing. We're beginning to have conversations that we never had before. And how do we move forward in healthy ways? One of the ways we move forward is really understanding power and how it's used to maintain privileges for some and remove privileges from others.”

Join us on October 26th, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST, to be part of this critical discussion. Register now at https://www.stacypiccolo.com/sacred-shift and help create a healthier path forward for everyone.

Finding spirituality often comes at a time when people are already carrying the weight of trauma and hardship. It can be a path toward healing, but what happens when the community or practices you turn to aren't what they seem? At our virtual Sacred Shift Summit, we’ll explore how to navigate spiritual spaces safely and how to honor your vulnerability while seeking healing.
“A lot of times when people find spirituality, it's because they're struggling. It's because they've had a difficult life, it's because they've already had trauma. So now they find spiritual practice or spirituality and they think, like, oh great, and they want to explore it. They want to heal. They want to share their trauma, maybe with people in the community, so they can kind of work through it. Or, you know, just as you practice yoga and the actual poses and teachings, certain things come up, and you're in a place where you know you have the opportunity to heal some of that—except if things aren't what they should be, or what they seem to be.
So if you are already vulnerable, you have maybe experienced some trauma in your life in the past, and then you come into a spiritual community and you are kind of like seeking. You're seeking a lot of things. You're seeking a connection with God, maybe a connection with yourself.”
If you’ve ever felt uncertain or unsafe in your spiritual journey, this summit is for you. Join us on October 26th, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST, and let’s explore how to heal and move forward together. Register today at https://www.stacypiccolo.com/sacred-shift

Be a part of the collective shift happening across all aspects of life where it’s not about one leader but the power of community working together to find what’s real and meaningful. Join us for our Sacred Shift Summit to explore more.

“Tell us a little bit about your mission and what you are here to do—what you know inside your body, your mind, your spirit, and your heart. What are you here for? I'm in complete alignment with the reality that we are a part of a shift, not just spiritually or religiously, though. Science is shifting. The medical profession is shifting, thank God. The way we approach it is shifting. There's just a complete shifting, and I like to say a shifting and a sifting. We've been sort of panning for gold, and we're shaking all of the dross out—all of the mud. Oh, there's a nugget, right? And I think now what we're doing, what we're a part of—and you're exactly right—is we're a part of a communal approach. It's about community. It's not one big leader.”

Join us on October 26th, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST, for our Sacred Shift Summit; a day of deep reflection, storytelling, and connection. We’ll be sifting through the noise together to find the gold of collective healing.

At our virtual Sacred Shift Summit, we’re here to help you develop the discernment and critical thinking needed to navigate religious and spiritual beliefs. I’m talking with Rev. Jon Scott about how important it is to question and review these teachings—just like we do with everything else in life—and ensure they truly serve your growth.

“That's something I learned the very hard way—I have to be discerning, I have to see what's right for me, and I have to weigh out what I'm hearing. Critically thinking about religious and spiritual topics and concepts calls for critical review of all beliefs and teachers. Why shouldn't there be? We critically review everything else in our lives. I welcome that. Absolutely, yeah. It keeps it healthy. Well, it does. There's an accountability. If you're going to step out into the limelight, you can expect there to be some lemon too. But if you're going to step out into that light and not expect to be scrutinized, come on.”

Join us on October 26th, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST, as we explore how critical thinking can lead to spiritual empowerment. Visit mindmovementcommunity.com to sign up and be part of this important discussion!

We are thrilled to announce Open Doors Counseling Center, LLC as a sponsor of our Sacred Shift Summit: Healing From Religious & Spiritual Trauma! 🎉

Here’s what owner and founder Kyle May has to say: “We are proud to be sponsoring the Sacred Shift Summit because we recognize and treat Religious Trauma and Spiritual Abuse. Many of our providers have a comprehensive understanding of the signs of Religious Trauma/Spiritual Abuse, the impacts it can have on people, especially those who identify as a part of the LGBTQ+ community, and how to navigate and heal from those issues.

Open Doors Counseling Center provides Identity Counseling, Trauma and Grief Counseling, Mood and Anxiety Counseling, and more. Their core values are Professionalism, Respect, Integrity, Diversity, and Excellence (PRIDE). They foster a safe space for LGBTQ+ individuals, LGBTQ+ allies, and others seeking behavioral health services. This environment supports the exploration of gender, s*xual, and affectional identity without fear of judgment.”

We are grateful to Open Doors Counseling Center for their generosity in sponsoring this year’s Sacred Shift Summit. Their passion for social justice, LGBTQ+ rights, and religious trauma recovery align perfectly with the mission of the Sacred Shift Summit and they are helping to make the event possible. 💖

Why do people pray for others against their will?! Especially if they are praying for something you wouldn’t want for yourself. Read to the end to see what I mean!

Recently someone asked a question why people in a Facebook group didn’t want to hear about Christianity and her religious beliefs when the group is meant for something totally different.

I answered her very kindly to try to illustrate why that topic is difficult for some people. Paraphrasing: ‘There is quite a bit of controversy around Christianity and the non-acceptance of anyone who doesn’t believe exactly the same way. People don’t feel welcome to be who they are and many are deconstructing the religions they grew up in due to trauma. We are taking the time to explore their own belief systems, and find what is right for us.

Sadly, people are leaving the church in record numbers. There is an ex-evangelical movement prominent on TikTok. People are weary from the guilt, shame, and judgment associated with Christianity and Catholicism.’ I told her of my belief in Jesus and that he would’ve helped and supported those that are being bullied and abused these days.
I told her that if this isn’t her experience then it is good she hasn’t experienced this trauma. But others have been abused by religion, spirituality, and other traditions like yoga. People want the freedom to believe what they want.

She told me she is “praying for me to find the real Jesus again”! I explained that there are over 4200 different religions, denominations, spiritual communities, etc. and none of them are the only legitimate ones. The Pope literally said that other religions also show the way to God!

Anyway, do you know what she said to me?! “Sorry you feel this way. I’m still praying for you. And I pray to the real Jesus”.

So you can see why I resonate so much with ‘s vid here! Tell us what you think in the comments below.

Dr. Jamie Marich, Ph.D. (she/they), is an internationally acclaimed expert in trauma recovery, EMDR therapy, addiction, dissociation, and expressive arts. With nearly two decades of clinical experience, Dr. Marich has made it a priority to support survivors of spiritual abuse and religious trauma. Raised in a unique religious background—one Catholic parent and one Evangelical parent—Dr. Marich’s personal experiences profoundly shape her professional work.

After surviving a long-term stint working for the Catholic church in humanitarian aid and studying extensively at a yoga ashram, Dr. Marich developed a nuanced understanding of how spiritual beliefs can both harm and heal.

This perspective is poignantly captured in her upcoming memoir, You Lied to Me About God, which explores the intersections of spiritual abuse, intergenerational trauma, and weaponized faith. Scheduled for release on October 15, 2024, the memoir delves into her tumultuous journey, marked by addiction, spiritual manipulation, and resilience.

Dr. Marich’s work has been a beacon of hope for many. She has written several books and speaks internationally, offering workshops and trainings that blend her expertise in trauma and expressive arts.

We invite you to hear what Dr. Marich has to share at our Sacred Shift Summit on October 26th, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST, as we dive deep into these issues.
