Fertile Minds Radio

Fertile Minds Radio Holistic tips for couples trying to conceive. Fertile Minds Radio is the podcast to help you create Oh, the dreaded personal bio.

I’ll try and be short and too the point, about me, my company, my experience and how it came to be my passion to help women become the best possible versions of themselves physically, mentally and emotionally. My name is Hillary Talbott and I am a state and nationally certified Acupuncturist and Clinical Herbalist. In the state of Florida, I am one of ten, board certified oriental reproductive specialists. What exactly does it mean to be a fellow of ABORM (the American Board of Oriental Medicine) you ask? It means that I have devoted my practice to the treatment of women’s health with an emphasis on reproduction. I have proved myself through rigorous board certification and 50+ continuing education hours per year focused on reproduction and obstetrics care. I have a Bachelor of Science from the University of Florida (Go Gators!) and a Masters of Oriental Medicine and Health Science Education. In 2012 I opened the Art of Acupuncture in St Petersburg, FL and have been serving the fertility community ever since. I have had a personal meditation practice for half of my life and I have been fortunate enough to personally study with Deepak Chopra and davidji. In 2014, I became a certified meditation teacher through the Masters of Wisdom teacher training program with davidji in Carlsbad, Ca- the sweet spot of the Universe. I happily pass on his meditation techniques to anyone that wishes to learn. I find it to be an invaluable tool for not just surviving a fertility journey, but thriving during and as a parent. Thought work has also been fundamental in my growth and the growth of my clients over the years. In 2021 I became certified with the Life Coach School. I love using the model to show clients how their minds are creating their feelings and how much control they do in fact have over their experience of their fertility journey. We incorporate the Model in our Conscious Conceptions Coaching program for couples that wish to use the power of their mind to co-create their fertility realities. In 2017 I began to understand what an immense need there was for education about natural solutions for women’s health issues, that the discussion about the changing face of feminism was necessary if we were going to thrive as a species, and that emotional support was vital for countless women, as infertility became an epidemic. While I certainly couldn’t perform acupuncture through the Internet, it became obvious to me that I could provide education, emotional and spiritual support, a safe place to buy quality and custom herbal solutions, and personal development tools like meditation. I knew in my gut that if I combined modern day technology, with my knowledge, and a business structure based on giving back as taught by Marie Forleo, that I could change the world and Fertile Minds Radio was born!

Your ovaries are storytellers, not saboteurs.

If you’ve been struggling with infertility, cysts, or irregular cycles, Chinese Medicine views these “symptoms” as messages from your body.

Your wise body is constantly whispering invitations to pause, listen, and realign. And your body is wiser than you think.

We simply have to get reacquainted with her language, that has been systematically destroyed.

Sometimes the “symptom” is about fear and depletion of Jing, your essence, the likely outcome when we burn the candle at both ends.

Sometimes it’s about stagnant creativity, blocked expression, or inherited beliefs that no longer serve you.

Sometimes it’s about nourishment and asking where we give too much, receive too little, or carry unprocessed grief or our own or the collective.

While it always makes sense to focus on the physical symptoms we are experiencing and the physiology of how we got there, sometimes reflections of deeper spiritual, emotional, and energetic disharmonies can hold the key to unlocking our deepest wellness.

If your cycles, hormones, or fertility feel out of balance, there’s a deeper layer worth exploring and your body already holds the map.

I’m happy to guide the way.

Are your hormones "just out of whack" or are they sending you important messages?

From a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) perspective, the ovaries are closely associated with the Kidney system, which governs Jing (essence), reproduction, and genetic potential. Additionally, the Liver and Spleen play key roles in ovarian health by ensuring the smooth flow of Qi and Blood and supporting the body's ability to nourish and regulate reproductive functions.

Spiritual Meaning of Ovarian Issues in TCM:
When the ovaries experience dysfunction—such as ovarian cysts, PCOS, premature ovarian failure, or infertility—TCM sees these imbalances as reflecting deeper spiritual, emotional, and energetic disharmonies.

It ALL matters when you are having fertility challenges.

The physical body is where most of us start to fixate when we begin to have fertility challenges, but the truth is that the mind and spirit also play vital roles in your journey to conception.

Infertility has always been hard and the last few years have definitely added layers of complexity to the challenge.

If you’re struggling with infertility, I know the stress is off the charts right now. I’m here for you, whether we’ve met before or not. Women need safe spaces and people to discuss these complexities and make deeply personal decisions that are aligned with the spirit of THEIR family and their convictions. I’m happy to be that person for you.

Endometriosis is one of the most common causes of infertility, leading to as many as 50% of cases. Some women may have endometriosis without symptoms, only to discover that they have the problem when they experience difficulty becoming pregnant. As many as 30-40% of women with endometriosis will experience fertility problems.

Endometriosis typically progresses and worsens over time as the chronic inflammation leads to accumulation of scar tissue causing “adhesions” that cause the organs like the intestines and bladder to become fixed in place leading to frequent or even pain with bowel movements and urination, and painful s*x.

The most common symptoms of endometriosis include killer cramping at the time of the menstrual cycle that sometimes won’t even go away with NSAIDS (motrin, ibuprofen, that kind of stuff), periods from hell (long. heavy), often with chronic and sometimes severe pain between periods, constipation and bloating, painful s*x, urinary problems, low back ache, and chronic fatigue. pain with bowel movement or urination, pelvic burning, aching not limited to menstruation, referred pain in distant sites, especially shoulder blades or top of collar bone, PMS. Additionally, women may experience: constipation, swollen abdomen, intestinal gas, depression, insomnia, lethargy, rarely, bleeding after bowel movements or after in*******se.

Here are some of the most common tests I request for PCOS diagnosis and management:

🧪 Hormone Panel: This includes measuring hormones such as testosterone, estrogen, progesterone, luteinizing hormone (LH), and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). Elevated testosterone and LH levels are often associated with PCOS.

🧪 Insulin and Glucose Testing: Assessing insulin resistance and glucose levels is crucial, as many women with PCOS have insulin resistance, which can lead to metabolic issues like Type 2 diabetes.

🧪 DHEA-S: DHEA-S (Dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate) is a hormone that can be elevated in PCOS. It’s produced by the adrenal glands and can contribute to elevated androgens (male hormones) in women.

🧪 Inflammatory Markers: High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and other inflammatory markers may be tested to assess systemic inflammation, which can be associated with PCOS and its complications.

🧪 Thyroid Function Tests: Hypothyroidism and PCOS can have overlapping symptoms. Thyroid function tests (TSH, T3, T4) can help rule out or identify thyroid issues.

🧪 S*x Hormone-Binding Globulin (SHBG): This protein binds to hormones like testosterone and estrogen, affecting their availability. Low SHBG levels can contribute to hormonal imbalances seen in PCOS.

🧪 Nutritional Deficiency Testing: I often test my clients for deficiencies in nutrients like vitamin D, magnesium, and zinc, which can impact PCOS and overall health.

The luteal phase begins the day after ovulation and lasts until you get your period. 🩸

⏲️You can usually detect its arrival by change in discharge, energy, and mood differences.  Depending on your cycle length, the luteal phase is typically about 12-14 days long.

📈After ovulation, the body releases the hormone progesterone to thicken the uterine in preparation for implantation and pregnancy.  While progesterone increases, the body's cells become more resistant to insulin. This leads to a higher amount of glucose in the blood stream and a rise in blood glucose levels.

During the first half of this phase as your body is gearing up to begin its natural cycle, you may find sudden bursts of energy or creativity.  With lots of energy moving, things like anger and frustration might also start to surface.  Give your body some TLC by fueling it with foods that support this beautiful, yet often painful and uncomfortable time.

Right now is a great time to nourish your body with some of the following...

- Black beans, lentils, oats, corn, quinoa
- Cherries, grapes, mulberry
- Cabbage, chives, onions, potatoes, radishes
- Ginger, garlic. cinnamon, garlic, cloves, chives, basil
- Lobster, oysters, salmon, shrimp. tuna
