That face you make when the doctor says “just stop running.” 😤 Yeah. We know that face.

As running PTs, we’ve heard it from hundreds of patients walking through our door — defeated, confused, and honestly a little betrayed. And look, doctors aren’t wrong for being cautious. But “stop running” is a blunt tool for a very specific problem.

🚨Flat bench, wide-grip pull-ups, and unassisted push-ups tend to place higher demand on the anterior shoulder and overall upper body load. The flat angle plus wider grip increases stress at the shoulder, especially if control or mobility is limited.

⭐️In contrast, incline pressing, narrow-grip pull-ups, and assisted push-ups create a more controlled setup. They reduce strain, allow better positioning, and make it easier to manage volume while still building strength.
