A buzz word amongst health professionals, “Fascia” means so much more than myo-fascial release (aka foam rolling, etc), the technique most people who are familiar with fascia have experienced. Fun fact? It doesn’t have to hurt! And attending to our fascial health can have drastic implications to our overall sense of wellbeing. It can be the difference between an anxiety ridden day... or not.
Hear from our resident Fascial Stretch Therapist, Em :
“Fascia works closely with our energetic body. As an owner of a yoga studio where we talk A LOT about energy, chakras, and the energetic body and its connection to physical ailments and manifestations, I LOVE how well FST lends itself to becoming energetic work almost inseparably from the physical bodywork. Since fascia touches every cell in the body, it acts as a transmission network for chemical and electrical signals associated with emotions that we experience. This is why, for example, with chronic stress, as the fascia transmits and records these same signals repeatedly, we may start to see evidence in our movement patterns and posture (i.e. “hunched over” appearance). This is also why we may experience emotional releases in practices that manipulate and move the fascia, such as FST and yoga.” Read the rest of her blog post HERE.
So you say, yes-- you do FST at The Studieaux, but WHY does that make you a “Fascia - Based Movement & Therapy studio”? One word-- MERGE. The Studieaux was lucky enough to host one of the first Merge the Practice certifications. Merge is a fascia based set of movement principles that when applied to ANY type of movement will increase stability & overall productivity of the movement. It is actively being “merged” into all that we do. Our classes now feel EXTRA restorative and good for the body.
