Beef up your stir-fries, frittatas, side dishes, and salads with broccoli!

Broccoli is a nutritional powerhouse packed with fiber, vitamins C and K, folate, potassium, manganese, iron, and even some protein. It's also rich in antioxidants, particularly sulforaphane, which may protect against cancer.

It's great raw, steamed, sautéed, or baked, although lightly steaming your broccoli is optimal for the body to be able to absorb all its available nutrients without them being degraded by overcooking.

What's your favorite way to enjoy broccoli?

In a rut or feeling low? When we're already in a place of low motivation, trying to shake things up with something brand new can feel daunting. Coming back to what's tried and true could be a more successful strategy!

Think back to a time when you felt energized, fulfilled, or contented - what were some things you were doing that supported your mental health? Maybe you used to journal about your emotions, or perhaps you loved the camaraderie of playing on a sports team. How could you implement those (or similar) activities into your life today?

As with any change you want to become a long-term part of your life, prioritize what appeals most to you and don't overwhelm yourself trying to do everything at once. Share your new/old mental health habit in the comments below!

When we can accept that we have control over our own response to others’ behavior - that their actions do not have the power to make us react, that our reactions are up to us to choose, and that their behavior is only reflective of THEIR inner state - it becomes easier to maintain our own peace and equanimity.

Mindfully process the emotions that arise when interacting with others, maintain and respect your personal boundaries, and proceed in whatever way is most beneficial to YOUR peace of mind

The unsung heroes of the digestive and immune systems- the healthy bacteria, archaea, and fungi that grow and live in our intestines - need to be fed too! Usually referred to as the gut microbiome or gut flora, these beneficial organisms help fight any disease-causing organisms that survive the stomach’s acid and produce the majority of the body’s immune cells, while also synthesizing a variety of enzymes, vitamins, and hormones that the body needs.

Disruption of the gut microbiome can occur while taking antibiotics, going through periods of high stress, or in conjunction with autoimmune and mental health conditions, from irritable bowel syndrome to diabetes to depression. Symptoms of this disruption, known as gut dysbiosis, can include constipation, diarrhea, heartburn, bloating, or fatigue.

You can support and improve your gut health by consuming a variety of fruits and vegetables and a balance of soluble and insoluble fiber; this will ensure a diverse population of organisms and provide them the nutrients to thrive. Fermented foods like yogurt, kombucha, kimchi and sauerkraut are also excellent for the gut, supporting an ideal pH in the intestine.

Further, a quality prebiotic and probiotic supplement with different strains in a capsule designed to survive stomach acid can help quickly repopulate the intestinal flora. Finally, lowering your stress level with meditation, exercise, and sleep will help prevent disruption to your gut microbiome.

Be mindful about where you put your energy and focus. Feed the relationships, activities, and thoughts that lift you up and bring you joy; give less to the those that bring you down and hold you back. There's a difference between processing negative emotions or challenging situations and dwelling on them.

Every day we face choices that can test our ability to stay true to ourselves, challenging everything from our moral compass to our aesthetic tastes. When we take the time to get to know ourselves and have a strong sense of our value as unique individuals, it is easier to make choices that align with our authentic, inimitable selves.

Zinc is a mineral that’s essential for good health. It’s required for the functions of over 300 enzymes and is involved in many important processes in your body. It metabolizes nutrients, maintains the immune system, and grows and repairs body tissues.

Your body doesn’t store zinc, so you need to eat enough every day to ensure you are meeting your daily requirements. Some foods that are rich in zinc include red meat, shellfish, legumes, pumpkin seeds, cashew nuts, dairy, eggs, potatoes, and dark chocolate.

Deep, meaningful relationships are a key pillar to health and happiness, so we definitely want to make sure to nurture the ones we have!

One way you can do this is to practice the art of mindfully listening, which means not scrolling through your phone, cutting the person off mid-sentence, or thinking about what you’re going to say next while they’re still talking. It’s about devoting all your time and energy to them in the given moment.

Try it out and see how your relationships grow!
