It’s Melanoma Monday! This is our founder Alexis’ father, who had to have a skin graft to the shin when he was diagnosed with a melanoma by Dr. Wall.

One Saturday afternoon our family had just finished a swim in the pool and Dr. Wall suddenly noticed a spot on Mr. Newsome’s shin.

“How long has that been there?” Dr Wall asked. “I’m not really sure but now that you point it out I know it looks different” Mr. Newsome answered.

A few days later Dr Wall removed a T1A melanoma on his shin and placed a skin graft. This is the result about 2 years later.

We aren’t sure how soon Mr. Newsome would have noticed that spot. It’s a reminder of how easy it is for things to go unnoticed. Early detection saves lives. We are so glad Dr. Wall recognized the spot and acted quickly.
