New Florida Law for School Sports Physicals

Starting in the 2026–2027 school year, Florida will require high school athletes (grades 9–12) to have an EKG (heart screening) before participating in school sports.

This is part of the Second Chance Act, aimed at detecting hidden heart conditions and preventing sudden cardiac events.

Important: A standard sports physical alone will no longer be enough.
