“Restoration” that ignores harm is not restoration at all.
When abusive leaders are rushed back into the pulpit, the message to survivors is clear:
Your pain is negotiable. Your story is inconvenient. Your safety is secondary.
That is not the heart of Jesus.
That is not justice.
And that is not healing.
True restoration centers the harmed, not the platform of the one who caused harm. It requires accountability, time, transparency, and a commitment to never repeat the same patterns.
Anything less isn’t redemption.
It’s retraumatization.
Church, we have to do better.
If you’re a leader, this is your responsibility.
If you’ve been hurt, your story matters—and you’re not alone.
