This page was formed after the fact, but it's worth mentioning that a giant in the occult world, a pioneering female magician, Dolores Ashcroft Nowicki passed away on Jan. 8th 2026 at the age of 96. She was the successor of W.E. Butler, as the head of the Servants of the Light mystery school. Hail the Traveler!
https://www.facebook.com/share/p/14bqsmvugcB/

The Servants of the Light school marks with deep respect and gratitude the passing of Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki, who served as Director of Studies from October 31st 1976, until her retirement on June 11th 2018.

Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki passed peacefully in the early hours of the morning on January 8th.

Born on June 11th 1929, on the Island of Jersey, she was raised within a family tradition of psychic and esoteric awareness, which shaped her early sensitivity to inner worlds and spiritual discipline.

Her formal involvement in the Western Mystery Tradition began in the 1960s through her work with the Society of the Inner Light, founded by Dion Fortune. There she met W. E. Butler and Gareth Knight, and later contributed to the development of the Helios Practical Course on the Mystical Qabalah, which evolved into the Servants of the Light School.

On October 31st 1976, following W. E. Butler’s retirement, Dolores was appointed Director of Studies of the Servants of the Light. For more than four decades, she acted as guardian, teacher, and interpreter of the School’s work, overseeing its teachings in Hermetic Qabalah, ritual practice, inner plane contact, and spiritual development.

Under her guidance, the School grew into an internationally respected centre for disciplined esoteric training, grounded in ethical responsibility and experiential depth. She retired as Director of Studies in 2018 but continued to teach and to write.

A prolific author, lecturer, and mentor, Dolores combined intellectual clarity, imagination, warmth, and humour, consistently encouraging students to cultivate discernment, integrity, and inner authority. She held the inner thread of the tradition with steadiness and care, insisting that magical work must serve consciousness and balance rather than personal ambition.

Dolores touched the lives of thousands of students with her unique magic and teaching, and we celebrate her life at this sad time.

The Servants of the Light school honours Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki for her lifelong dedication to the Work and gives thanks for the enduring legacy she leaves within the school and beyond.

Dolores is loved and remembered by many.

We extend our deepest condolences to Dolores' family at this time of grief. Her family have requested privacy and quiet at this time, so they will not be responding to messages.

May Dolores journey onward in Light and go forth shining!

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law.

This flyer presents an opportunity for Salem occultists who are drawn to Thelema. In conjunction with the Sekhet-Maat Lodge in Portland, a Salem group is working on what they call a camp in formation; a chapter of the OTO that will be located in Salem. If interested, send a letter of interest to the signee on the flyer. Yes, a letter.

Visitors to downtown Astoria can walk in the footsteps of the town’s famous femme fatale, Maila Nurmi — better known as her gothic alter ego, Vampira.

The Clatsop County Historical Society launched the nine-stop walking tour in 2023, ahead of a visit by Sandra Niemi, author of “Glamour Ghoul: The Passions and Pain of the Real Vampira, Maila Nurmi.”

Nurmi spent only about three years in Astoria, leaving for Los Angeles in October 1941. Still, the walking tour gives visitors a sense of the community she once called home.

The Monthly Wrap-up!
February saw Hekate, the Goddess of Witches, honored daily, but especially on the Dark Moon with a full house of admirers in the Sanctuary of Hekate. Aphrodite was lit up in beauty and power on Fridays, and Poseidon was dignified every Saturday. Devotees placed 5 candles, a bottle of Coca Cola, and a pack of smokes on the Santa Muerte altar, and there was an increase of mantras spoken at Quan Yin's feet.

The Market For The Strange read Tales of Dark Desire.
Lilith was invited and crawled in seductively. Aradia and Karnayna were invoked. The Hellfire Club conjured Pazuzu on his winds. Hekate Summoned Us.

There are whispers of a Mystery School forming, occult cocktail parties out on the town, and training witches to their First Degree.

A Casual Coven has become more serious.

Oregon witnessed the birth of Baphomet's Chamber for shadow work, and many seekers have since parted the veil and crossed the dark threshold in search of wholeness.

Amid the incense smoke a pair of canine bones were sacrificed between Anubis and Hekate. Plus as predicted, wolves are showing up in unexpected places.

On a more somber note, February marked the 3rd anniversary of a death that occured to a dear pagan practitioner while she was visiting her favorite haunt, By Candlelight & Conjure. Rest in Peace April

There is more than just talk of an Ordo Templi Orientis chapter being formed in Salem; branching off from the Portland lodge. A Frater distributed flyers where it matters, (see By Candlelight & Conjure ) to weigh the interest of Salem's magicians.

Green Witches gathered for a Seed Swap, and a Gnostic Valentine's Day Ceremony with The Magdalene occured! Crafty Witches gathered and mixed up lots of Black Salt. Inner Teachings of the Tarot had an alumni meeting, Rogue Oracle Decks were introduced, and a group of Lightworkers managed to cast light amidst all the chaos.
