Gibbys Fight

Gibbys Fight Gibby was misdiagnosed with neurological FIP and treated for it for 112 days. Gibbys liver shunt surgery was 5/22/24. 🧡

After visiting a neurologist at Dove Lewis, more testing and a CT scan it was confirmed he had a Portosytemic Liver Shunt and not FIP.

Happy February 🧡 It’s sure cold outside, Gibby is keeping snug and warm in his bed.

Update from Gibbys appointment: his darn calcium is still high 🤦‍♀️

We are stopping the Alendronate but continuing the psyllium husk in his food. It’s such a mystery why his calcium is still elevated, at his appointment I inquired again about the effects of lactulose and if that can cause his elevated calcium or any of his other medications or food. Dr. Davis says no not at that level.

As Bayley says in her notes below, we will try to reduce his lactulose a bit but keep an eye on his stools and any changes in behavior.

Sorry so long since an update!

On our way to Dove Lewis right now with Gibby for another calcium check, fingers crossed this time the higher dose of Alendronate, 35mg- 1x a week has lowered his levels where they need to be. It’s $168 every time we take him in for a tech appointment and the calcium test so sure hoping this time is it for Gibbys sake and our finances. 😿

Besides these darn tests Gibby has been doing really well, looking cute as ever snugged up in his carrier on the way to the vet. 💕

Gibbys appointment for his recheck on calcium levels was on Monday.

Unfortunately his levels are still high, ugh. We will try a higher dose of 35mg packs of Alendronate. Picking up the new prescription today to get started tomorrow and he will have a recheck in 4 weeks.

On a positive note he seems in good spirits and is still doing well post surgery. Dr Davis said it could potentially take even up to a year for his shunt to shrink completely from the cellophane banding.

Overall not terrible news for Gibbys test results from his appointment yesterday. 🧡

We are increasing his alendronate starting next Monday and will schedule him for a recheck of ionized calcium in a month. 🤞

4 month post surgery testing was today! The tech said they will call with results tomorrow likely. 🤞

Gibbys picture popped up on facebook feed today for Dove Lewis! This is him post surgey recovery in ICU. The wonderful staff picked him up and carried him much of the time so he felt comfortable and not scared with all the noise. Made me smile coming accross this today. 🧡Gibby has his appointment next Monday the 23rd, we will bring him in early am and leave him for the day so he can get all of his testing done to see how his liver is functioning post surgery, its going to be a spendy bill, please help Gibby if able, and thank you to so many who have already helped this sweet boy along the way. 🙏 We appreciate each and every donation to help Gibby keep up his fight. 🧡🧡

Throwback to when Gibby was first adopted, before he started showing symtoms of being sick. What a journey and emotional roller coaster it’s been since then! So thankful our little orange fluff ball is still here with us today. 🙏🧡

Gibby is 2 years old now! 🎉

Time flies by, it’s amazing to think everything this little guy has been through and he’s still here shining bright. 🧡

Gibbys ionized calcium came back lower than previous results but still slightly high so Dr. Davis recommends giving him an increased amount of psyllium husk mixed in his wet food.

His next appointment is scheduled for September 23rd where they will do a complete blood count and chemistry panel and a bile acids test. These tests will help determine improvement levels 4 months post surgery.

We are still chipping away at the balance on care credit and know it will be hard to catch up with more appointments, testing costs and continued prescriptions and food. If able, any amount at all helps us keep up the fight for our little man. 🧡
