Some friendships begin in the most unexpected places: a shared dinner table on a cruise, a spontaneous road trip, or even a community tour. For four residents at The Springs at Tanasbourne, what started as casual conversation turned into decades of adventure, laughter, and unwavering support.

From exploring every U.S. state and steering a canal boat in England to simply living two doors apart in retirement, their story is a beautiful reminder that true friendship only deepens with time.

Please join us in wishing our wonderful resident, Dan, a very happy 91st birthday!

Dan was born in the beautiful South in Mississippi and moved to Corvallis as a child with his family. He fondly remembers his roots, often sharing heartfelt stories about the Southern landscape and time spent with his father.

Growing up in Corvallis, Dan was an avid athlete—he pitched for his high school baseball team and later went on to serve our country with pride, first in the Air Force and then transferring to the Navy. Dan is a proud U.S. veteran and never misses a chance to remind you of it!

In his free time, Dan loved camping, fishing, gardening, and watching football—he’s always been a “guy’s guy.” He went on to work at Oregon State University, where he developed a deep and lasting love for the Oregon Beavers.

Doing One Thing at The Springs Living means letting compassion guide every decision that shapes life in our communities. This year, nominations from residents and families poured in, each one spotlighting a teammate who makes quality shine. Rising to the top was a story poured straight from the heart.

Meet Michael Robbins, bartender at The Springs at Happy Valley and guardian angel behind the bar. Michael doesn't just remember favorite cocktails; he remembers favorite stories. When a resident began choking, he calmly delivered the Heimlich and saved their life. Weeks later he noticed another guest’s speech change mid-order, alerted the team, and had 911 on the way within moments.

Yet ask anyone and they’ll say Michael’s real superpower is the everyday stuff: the warm greeting that starts dinner service, the listening ear, the way he makes every person feel like the only person in the room.

Michael, thank you for living One Thing every day and reminding us that quality starts with heart. Raise a glass to our 2025 One Thing Award winner!

Please join us in wishing Reggie a very Happy 85th Birthday! �

Today we celebrate an extraordinary man whose life has been filled with adventure, service, love, and compassion. Born in the UK and proudly serving in the Royal Navy, Reggie had the distinct honor of meeting Queen Elizabeth herself — even serving aboard one of her yachts!

Before his military days, Reggie grew up on a dairy farm in Minnesota, where he developed a lifelong love for animals, especially his beloved goats and sheep. His warmth and kindness for all creatures great and small still shine through to this day.

A true athlete in his prime, Reggie ran marathons and even trained for an IronMan competition — showing us all what determination and strength look like.

His career took him across the globe as a specialist in oil refineries, but it was South Africa that stole his heart. It was, however, in Santa Barbara where fate truly smiled on him — he met Linda, the love of his life, at St. Francis Hospital. Just one week later, they were married, beginning a beautiful journey that’s now 38 years strong.

Reggie is a proud father of four, and though his family is now in the UK, his love for them is boundless.

Reggie, your life story inspires us all — full of purpose, passion, and deep affection. Here's to you on this special day! May it be filled with the joy and love you so richly deserve.
