Recently Dr. Bolin was honored to be included in the Radford University Women’s Golf Ring Ceremony celebrating their 2025 Big South Championship. ⛳️ Coach Jeff Beeler honored Dr. Bolin’s request that he not be given a ring but rather a photo of one instead which the team could all sign and he could hang in his office. It was the first Radford Women’s Golf Conference Championship in school history, 🏆and it was a joy to celebrate such a fine group of talented, personable and gracious young women.🏌️‍♀️ Congratulations Lady Highlanders!

The final stop on Dr. B’s recent “speaking tour” 😆 was the VOMA conference at King’s Mill. His talk was entitled “When Traditional Medicine Fails”. While he is a traditional allopathic MD, as his patients know, Dr. Bolin is also a powerful advocate of Osteopathic Medicine, particularly osteopathic manipulation. His lifelong learning has equipped him to be able to look at problems with different eyes and offer out-of-the-box treatments which often help where others have failed. He works together with others in the medical community to try to keep medicine patient-focused as it should be. “If the patient leaves your office not feeling they were taken care of…then they weren’t.”

Last week Dr. Bolin was in Atlanta for the annual American College of Sports Medicine meeting. In addition to catching up with old classmates and colleagues, he was a commentator on several case presentations and helped teach osteopathic manipulation for the upper extremities in a sports injury course.

Dr. Bolin has been a busy guy these past two weeks! He kicked off his “tour” by speaking on May 22 at the Hotel Roanoke at the 75th Carilion Clinic Spring Symposium. His talk was entitled “The New Science of Exercise: Truths, Rumors and Outright Lies”. The main takeaway was that prolonged intense exercise is not necessary to reap health and longevity benefits. If you are able to sustain 5 times your resting metabolic rate (or 5 METS), that is enough. For a man, that is equivalent to walking 4 mph on a flat surface, and for a woman it is 3 mph; it is slightly slower for both if you are walking up hill on a 3% grade. The goal would be to do this 30 minutes a day, but the degree of effort is what matters most.

Today Dr. Bolin had the honor of being the invited guest speaker for the Men’s Soccer Awards Banquet at his Alma mater, Millersville University. When Coach Widdowson came to MU twenty years ago, he began the tradition of inviting an alum of the program to give the keynote speech. Dr. B’s remarks were met with laughter and kind words, probably because he met his goals of keeping it engaging, humerous, and short! 😆He greatly enjoyed meeting some of the current generation of players as well as the coaching staff, a quality group of mentors who clearly emphasize not only skill in competition but commitment, growth, and community both on and off the pitch. The program has grown exponentially in quality since Dr. B was a goalie in the mid-80’s, and it was encouraging to see. Continued good luck to the Marauders!
