Important moves towards creating a pathway for post partum doulas to become Medicaid providers in Oregon! The governor signed this into law last week.

In the meantime, as we wait for this pathway to be developed folks on Pacific Source can use their flex funds to pay for post partum doula services. Feel free to reach out if you want more info!

🤔Hospital systems have spent a century dismissing and marginalizing home birth and midwifery care—yet here we are again, with marketing that sells their birthing suites as “home-like.”

The real question is: why not support and collaborate with the actual providers delivering safe, effective, relationship-based care in real homes?

Planned home birth with qualified midwives is associated with:

👉🏻 Excellent outcomes for low-risk pregnancies

👉🏽 Fewer inductions and cesareans.

👉 High client satisfaction

👉🏾 Lower intervention rates

👉🏿 Respectful, continuous, one-on-one care

Still, most hospitals:

👎🏻 Refuse to integrate community midwives

👎🏼 Fail to develop two-way transfer systems

👎🏿 Replicate hotel aesthetics instead of care quality

We don’t need prettier rooms. We need structural respect for the midwifery model of care.

Folks can also use this template and change “I am a certified doula” to I am a constituent who benefitted from doula services, or “I am a doula supporter.”

Let’s pass the Momnibus!

I really love this mug. Ok, ok, home birth is not right for everyone, however I do think it gets clouded in fear and misinformation too much of the time.

Homebirth is a safe option for families who want supportive, 1-on-1, low medical intervention care for physiologic birth.

AND yes! Certainly for 1st babies. Don’t wait until an unsatisfactory birth experience “makes” you research home birth as an option.

Research all birth options in your area - hospital, birth center, home - during pregnancy so you are making the best most informed choice for your family.
