Trivia Guru David Shein returned to help us kick off the summer with a Trivia Party and we had a ton of fun! David is an entertaining host with a great selection of trivia questions, interesting commentary, and a delightful sense of humor. In fact, in addition to the resident teams that played the game, we had quite a large spectator section of residents enjoying the event. And when David announced that the winning team for the day was “The Village People,” he played the song YMCA, and some residents celebrated with a little dancing in the aisles. Of course, for a summer party we had to have the right refreshments which included Drumstick ice cream cones, chocolate covered ice cream bars, and fruit pops!

The Footnotes dancers returned to our stage to present an encore performance that featured more Broadway numbers as well as a selection of patriotic music in honor of our country and our veterans. Directed by Jeanette Gardner, the members of this group range from 60-79 years old, and love to share the joy and fun of dance and music wherever they go. They reminded us that we can find ways to pursue things that bring us joy at any stage of life! Refreshments included lemonade and iced tea paired with chocolates and two new creations from our baker Glenda – Rhubarb Cookies and Peanut Butter Sandwich Cookies that were decorated to look like flip-flops.

The Cherry City Quartet, under the mentorship of retired Willamette University music professor Dan Rouslin, brought a special concert to our stage. It was special because we had the chance to welcome back member Noah Mayer (Violin 1) as well as meet three new members Ai Nyguen (violin 2), Zoe Ditzel (viola), and Elena Harchanko (cello). We loved having the opportunity to experience the talent, teamwork and poise of these young artists who range from middle school to high school.

Embracing a better life. Embracing life better.

Since 1963, Capital Manor has been getting better and better! We are currently undergoing a five-phase expansion plan so we can meet the growing needs of the Salem community. After this plan is complete our 37 acre campus will expand to 49 acres. The 5 Phases include: 1. Expand and improve parking, 2. Build a 34 private suite state of the art Memory Care, 3. Build 34 new spacious Westside Villas for Independent Living, 4. Renovate and update our amenities and dining venues, 5. Remodel and renovate the exteriors of our existing villas.

Capital Manor offers a vibrant, active retirement lifestyle where our residents can thrive. With our focus on wellness there is always something to do to embrace a better life: take a fitness class in the pool, learn ceramics, volunteer at the library, meet friends for a glass of wine or walk your dog by the creek in the forested glen. With housekeeping, landscaping, maintenance, and a flexible dining plan, our staff take care of much of your “have-to-do” list so you can spend time on your “want-to-do” list.

Capital Manor is the only not-for-profit Life Plan (CCRC) Community within 30 miles of Salem. We are proud of our reputation in the Salem area as the community that offers the highest quality of care. Our residents have exclusive access to Capital Manor Care. As needs change over time, having access to our care, provides peace of mind for our residents and also for their family and loved ones.

We hope you will come see how we are embracing life better every day! Call to make an appointment , 503-589-3734 or visit https://www.capitalmanor.com to learn more.
