Our first concert featured an Ice Cream Float Bar with scoops of vanilla ice cream topped with root beer, orange soda or pineapple juice. After getting their drinks the audience took their seats as our favorite Rock n’ Roll band Scott, Bailey, and Ross brought us an evening of music from the 50’s and 60’s including hits by artists like Lovin Spoonful, Chuck Berry, Otis Redding and of course The Beatles! With the talented trio of Cal Scott on vocals and guitar, Bob Baily on bass and Dan Ross on drums we had great music, great fun and a great time together.

Our second concert included an Italian Soda Bar featuring strawberry, orange, peach, and vanilla flavors along with a dash of cream for those who wanted an Italian Cream Soda. The audience than enjoyed a concert by the Chintimini Brass Band who brought us the music of the Swing and Big Band era along with a touch of Jazz. With Trevor Wilson and Danny Mitchell on trumpet, Dave Soreonson on horn, Brian Wison on trombone, Issac Andrew on tuba and Andy Weiss on drums – we had some amazing music that delighted not only the human audience, but also one dog who happened to tag along.

Two nights of beautiful weather, wonderful live music and time with friends and family – it doesn’t get much better than that!

The Capital Manor Young Artist Series was pleased to bring back Zoe Beyler for a presentation titled “How Did You Move That Thing? Unpacking the History of the Marimba.” Zoe just completed her Masters in Orchestral Percussion from the Manhattan School of Music in New York and shared exciting news about her coming orchestra fellowship in Osaka, Japan. Once again, she combined lecture with performance, and the audience was impressed with both her natural gift as a teacher and her talent as a musician. Zoe’s love for her music made her program so special – whether she was playing classical selections or modern compositions on the Marimba, she made it exciting and beautiful. She is the granddaughter of residents Mabel and Ken Snyder and after three performances on our stage, she has developed quite a fan club here that is cheering her on as she pursues her dream to become a permanent member of a Symphony Orchestra.

The talented Iris Duo of Marilyn Reischke and Amy Harris returned with another concert featuring the magic of four hands on one piano. Their program was titled “All the Old Familiar Places” and took us on a heartfelt journey with timeless tunes that felt like coming home. Through their music, Iris Duo took us to an English Village, to Eastern Europe with Bohemian and Gypsy melodies, and to Germany and Austria including selections from the Sound of Music. Closer to home, we travelled across America experiencing Appalachian melodies, beloved hymns, a barn dance, and a selection of patriotic pieces. Iris Duo closed with “America the Beautiful,” and it was indeed a beautiful way to end a very special concert.

Embracing a better life. Embracing life better.

Since 1963, Capital Manor has been getting better and better! We are currently undergoing a five-phase expansion plan so we can meet the growing needs of the Salem community. After this plan is complete our 37 acre campus will expand to 49 acres. The 5 Phases include: 1. Expand and improve parking, 2. Build a 34 private suite state of the art Memory Care, 3. Build 34 new spacious Westside Villas for Independent Living, 4. Renovate and update our amenities and dining venues, 5. Remodel and renovate the exteriors of our existing villas.

Capital Manor offers a vibrant, active retirement lifestyle where our residents can thrive. With our focus on wellness there is always something to do to embrace a better life: take a fitness class in the pool, learn ceramics, volunteer at the library, meet friends for a glass of wine or walk your dog by the creek in the forested glen. With housekeeping, landscaping, maintenance, and a flexible dining plan, our staff take care of much of your “have-to-do” list so you can spend time on your “want-to-do” list.

Capital Manor is the only not-for-profit Life Plan (CCRC) Community within 30 miles of Salem.
