Birth Doula support & Reiki services within a 25 mile radius of Salem, Oregon. We are now very proud parents to two amazing and very lively boys, Mitch & Henry.

I am a DONA Certified Birth Doula, DONA trained Postpartum Doula and Reiki Master. In 2005, my husband & I moved to Keizer, Oregon from the North of England, realizing a dream that we both had since we were young. Serving as a birth doula within my community has been a desire that arose whilst I was a facilitator of the New Moms Connection group at Salem Hospital. It was also during this time period that I became aware of my natural ability of being an Empath and Intuitive. Tuning into these gifts lead me to become a Reiki practitioner, completing all three levels by 2011. In 2014 I completed an intensive DONA Birth Doula Training Course at Mother Tree Birth Services in Portland and I am currently working towards my DONA Certification.My other interests include volunteering at our sons' elementary school and working out, especially running.

We are honored and grateful to announce that Doula Synergy and Compass Perinatal Peer Support with help from Silver Falls Family Support are now facilitating Pregnancy Loss Grief Circles at Salem Hospital.

These grief circles are FREE and there is no need to register ahead of time. It's a come-as-you-are space where we strive to hear each other deeply and support one another, no matter where each of us are along our journey.

We know how hard it can be to walk into a space like this, so please feel welcome to reach out to Samantha or Ashley privately. We will gladly come hold your hand and walk in together.

I see so many people worrying about constantly trying to make more milk to keep up with their baby's growing needs. Good news, you don't have to. The amount stays the same between one month and six months, then slowly slowly starts to decrease from there.

Wow!!! Kaiser Permanente are making decisions that may look like they are moving with the times but this change is tone-deaf. There is no way this will be for the good of their members!

Repost - Studies have suggested childbirth education courses can reduce risks. A 2020 study found that women who took childbirth education were less likely to require labor inducement and had a lower use of pain medications during labor. Another 2018 study found that women who participated in childbirth classes reduced delivery complications. Those studies did not examine differences between courses offered live or pre-recorded.

The U.S. is considered an outlier among wealthy nations in maternal health care. In 2022 the average maternal mortality rate of all high-income countries was five deaths per 100,000 live births, but in the U.S. that number was 22, according to the Commonwealth Fund.The maternal mortality rate is higher in the U.S. for Black, Hispanic and Native pregnant patients.

When our boys were babies I really struggled. I felt very isolated and had very little support.

When Mitch was a baby, Bob worked out of town during the week and I spent days and nights on end having no adult to see, talk to, help me. I was alone with a baby who had severe reflux and very rarely seemed happy. The decisions I had to make for him, such as, do I take him to the doctors because he never seemed settled, and have to pay for each visit (not something I was used to coming from England). Then once I was given a prescription to help his reflux, did I really want to give him medication at such a young age? (It tasted horrific btw). My gut told me to not give it to him but one night (whilst visiting Bob in Tacoma) I lost it! The constant crying whilst in the apartment, severe lack of sleep and so sad that he never seemed happy finally got to me. I just couldn’t take it anymore. I gave him the medication. He did get relief from it but the worries continued. How do I give it to him (I was exclusively breastfeeding)? Mix it with pumped milk, but when do I pump (1st time mom worries)? Mix it with formula? (but I didn’t want him to have formula and then when I tried, he didn’t like it). With each growth spurt the effect of the medication wore off and I had to take him back to his pediatrician to increase his dose according to his new weight. It was a constant worry and took a significant toll on my mental health.

To top it all off, I now feel I should have gone with my gut and not given him the medication. We know SO much more now! So much so that the medication has been banned by the FDA! I gave that to my tiny baby!

How many of these have you heard?

These induction myths are plain wrong.

Some are tactics used to scare women into accepting intervention, or to persuade women that induction interventions aren’t something they need to think too much about.

But the reality is that decisions about induction are worthy of thought.

Because starting labour artificially can be beneficial for some women/babies, in some situations.

There are times when it is absolutely the right thing for women/families.

But that’s not always the case.

Induction of labour also has risks and downsides.

It has repercussions that can last a lifetime.

None of the myths in my pic are backed up by evidence, but they are often heard.

So it’s worth spending some time finding out about the issues, learning about the evidence and then making an informed decision about whether induction and the interventions and restrictions that this involves are right for you.

Interpersonal Neurobiology & Birth: The Doula’s Role with

So much to learn in one morning! The brain and body connection during labor, birth and postpartum is profound and so many inside & outside influences can make all the difference to a persons experience (positive and negative). Brain science 🧠🤯

Being in community and learning with other doulas feeds my soul. It was another fun field trip with Becky & Bethany . And meeting and learning from was incredible. Her experience and wealth of knowledge is endless. doulas! It was so great to meet you all and hangout after. You’re doing amazing work for your coastal communities! 💞

This month we are celebrating International Doula Month.

💜 It has been 10 years since I first trained to be a Birth Doula and I have loved how it has not only given me the opportunity to meet and support such incredible people (and now friends), but it has also given me the chance to push myself out of my comfort zone on a regular basis, helping me to discover parts of me I never knew existed.

💜 Last night I sat in on a doula mentor session for new doulas and it really hit home how deep this work goes.

💜 I love my profession and there is so much more to come! 💞💞💞

- Keep your partner company while breastfeeding.
- Offer words of encouragement. Tell your partner you're proud of them.
- Learn your baby's hunger cues so you can bring your baby to your partner for nursing sessions.
