Elisabeth Herrera Counseling

Elisabeth Herrera Counseling Sometimes we find ourselves in need of a safe space to vent, process, or decompress I serve individuals ages 15+. I can't wait to hear from you.

Clients can come to me struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, change of life issues, etc. I have experience dealing with child trauma victims, as well as their parents and families. I also have extensive experience working with teens, and young adults that are dealing with various life stressors and issues. My heart really lies with all people; everyone has a story to tell, and

I want to be here to listen. The initial consultation is free of charge to see if I am a good fit for your needs. I believe in a completely individualized approach to therapy; therefore, I utilize multiple theoretical approaches in my sessions with clients. However, client-centered therapy is usually where our work begins. That means that you, the client, are the expert in the room and I am simply here to provide direction and therapeutic expertise.

With the recent attacks happening on the Neuro-divergent population, this quote shared during a training I took this month felt relevant to pass along.

Can we challenge ourselves to do better? Lead with empathy, and curiosity instead of judgment. Those things are choices, unlike having a neuro-divergent brain.

I’m gonna be transparent, this has been hard for me too. I am much more comfortable in a giving role than accepting or asking for help. The only child, independent woman roots run deep honey. AND, challenging that discomfort in the name of building a support system has been so helpful. This can look like:
▫️supplying a meal
▫️driving kids to an appointment/practice/school
▫️groceries
▫️walking a dog/letting a dog out
▫️borrowing items amongst community in lieu of purchasing

Most importantly, nobody is keeping score, and nobody is weaponizing anything against anyone else because the understanding is that we are all in this together.

There’s some truth in that old saying “laughter is the best medicine.” Seeking out humor intentionally can be so helpful when we are in the bad feels to give us a break, and get some happy chemicals flowing in the brain 🧠

It’s been a heavy week. Every session has had a theme of despair with regard to the future in this country. Obviously I don’t have any answers…I don’t write policy, I don’t work in anything remotely close to government spaces. So all I can offer is this: We have each other in these carefully curated communities, and we have the power to create and cultivate them 🪴

This post cannot possibly cover all of the things people may need for resources to feel prepared for what is ahead. My hope is that it’s a good place to start.

So far, the main proposed changes involve the defunding the Dept. of Education, immigration reform/mass deportations, implementation of tariffs, and reduced access for reproductive health.

The Department of Education at the federal level does not actually influence curriculum, but 𝘪𝘴 responsible for providing funding to the states for special education, Title I & IX, Pell Grants for college to low income students, etc.

Economists are projecting that the tariff implementation, as well as mass deportations may cause the alternative intended economic impact for most Americans. (𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘌𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘵, 𝘕𝘗𝘙, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘞𝘢𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘵𝘰𝘯 𝘗𝘰𝘴𝘵) I included financial planning & literacy resources for this purpose.

Ultimately, lean on your community. Seek mental health support. Set firm boundaries if relationships don’t feel supportive.
