What is your favorite season??

Mine is 🍂 FALL 🍁!!!

Today I was reflecting on the past 7 years while having a week of celebrations for my sweet little boy who is growing faster and faster it seems.

I was reflecting on the mom I started out being and the mom I am today.

The mom I was in 2017 was scared, completely lacked confidence, struggled to find who she was and wanted to be, let everyone else’s opinions become her own instead of thinking for herself.

The mom I am today is confident and feels more free and happy than ever! Sure, I still make mistakes, and I always will, that’s the journey of a human! But I have an amazingly close relationship with my kid! I’m not afraid to admit when I’m wrong. I guide him but also give him the respect any human deserves, no matter the age!

This was not my experience with those that raised me. It was a different time where kids really weren’t treated like equals and it wasn’t okay to talk about your feelings. It was considered “weak”.

Now, I have allowed my experiences to fuel me and guide me into the direction of a mother/son relationship I can be proud of. I don’t want him to fear me, I don’t want him to ever feel invalidated, I never want him to know what it’s like to be spanked as a way of discipline.

I love reflecting and paying attention to how far I’ve come in my personal growth journey. If you don’t document where you are now, the you in 7, 10, or 20 years won’t be able to look back and see that progress as clearly. I’m so glad I have documented my journey in my journals. It makes me proud to see how far I’ve come.

I had this all turned around until I started counseling and started dissecting my struggles with certain relationships on another level.

I used to think “but they say… X, Y, Z…” so that must make it so. But then my counselor said, but how do they TREAT you?

I know to most this is like a “DUH” but to me, I had not considered that what they said may not match how they treat me. And there was where my internal turmoil began. My brain was at odds with what people said vs how they actually treated me.

💥 BOOM 💥 My mind was blown!

I have also learned through this process that TWO THINGS CAN BE TRUE at the same time. Also another bomb for me.

I am allowed to be completely and utterly appreciative for things people have done for me, while also requiring to be respected. I used to think that I had no right feeling certain ways because “look how nice they were to help me, I don’t have a right to be upset about this other thing…” But in reality, I can completely appreciate that, while ALSO demanding to be treated kindly and equally.

Happiness is truly about the company you keep and whose energy you allow in your life. And if you aren’t be treated kindly, SPEAK UP! You do not have to settle, everyone deserves kindness, love, and respect!!!

I know this first hand!

I also know, being yourself, truly and authentically, is worth so much.

There will be painful good-byes without a doubt. But it’s better than never being allowed to be yourself.

Those who truly want what is best for you and truly love YOU, they will never want you to settle for any less than exactly who you are.

One of the biggest things that has helped shift my mindset and made me an overall happier and healthier person inside and out, is journaling!

My journaling has changed and morphed throughout the years. I started back in 2018. I went from panda journals, to start today journals, to starting to do my own prompts.

Things I track daily…

GRATITUDE
I list 5 things that have happened in THE LAST 24 HOURS (thank you msrachelhollis)! I have found that saying things larger and general like “I’m thankful for my home” don’t have the same punch as saying the smaller things like “my hot cup of coffee while watching birds” or “snuggling with my son while he reads to me”. The smaller more detailed pieces of gratitude just hits more powerfully for me.

WHAT I WANT TO ACCOMPLISH FOR THE DAY
I lost 3 things I want to accomplish that day. I of course accomplish a lot more than 3 a day, but it helps me remember my most important tasks for the day. And then, my OCD/ADHD
brain gets to check things off that I accomplish and that makes me smile!

WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT
I list 3 things that are coming up within the next couple of months. There is science based information regarding this which I learned about from a podcast (thank you Mel Robbins). When you are planning a vacation, the day BEFORE you start vacation is your most happy and exciting day. Because there’s something about looking forward to an event or experience that shifts your mood.

MY CYCLE
I track tons of cycle items beyond just the day of my cycle I’m on, like how I’m feeling emotionally, physically, cravings, etc. So all my ladies out there still having a menstral cycle, make sure you understand what you feel like on the different days of your cycle.

HIGHS & LOWS
I track the things that brought me the most joy that day as well as a few things that maybe have room for improvement!

So, if you have wanted to start journaling, there’s so many things you can track or write. It’s a custom experience for you. So find a practice that speaks to you so you will want to be consistent. Consistency has been the biggest thing for me. At the beginning of my journey, I was inconsistent. The moment I became consistent and took the time daily to check in with me, that is when I really started shifting my mood and happiness!

Every day is a good day to “start” your health journey. And everyone’s health journey is different.

My health journey the past few years has been to work on my mental health and figure out why I struggle to believe in myself and trust myself in certain situations. Where does that come from? What lies or incorrect labels did OTHERS put on me that I just accepted and adopted of the language I spoke to myself?

Currently my health journey is dropping weight to help me live longer for my son and to make life more enjoyable and “light”! But also to be intentional about my days and be consistent with journaling. My journaling practice is something that I created myself. I previously bought journals that had prompts in them when I had first started, but now I realize I needed my own prompts that worked for my life and goals.

My health journey a decade ago was to look great in my wedding dress and to run as many organized races as I could.

Every health journey looks different. The most important thing is finding what works for you and going ALL IN!!

What does health look like for you right now?

Not the way I planned waking up in a morning in July. Weather really messes with my mood!

So what did I do? Lifted some weights! It was arms and core day!

I used to dodge the things I didn’t do well, in fear of looking stupid or being made fun of within my different social groups. It was a fear I felt mentally but also physically, thus was born ANXIETY!

What I’ve learned in adulthood but truly in the last few years is that failing is also a lesson. It gives you a point at which to be better than the next time you try. This way, you aren’t competing with ANYONE else, only yourself.

Some strengths we are born with, and others we have to develop.

What do you want so bad that it hurts? Is it something you feel as though you are “not good at” or “can’t do”? Use that as the catalyst to lean into it. One step at a time or jump all the way in. It’s most likely along the way you may fail getting there, but you’re that much closer than you were. Then repeat until you arrive.

I listened to a podcast the other day and they were talking about how we aren’t super excited once we REACH the goal. Not at least in the way that we are in the PROCESS of attempting to reach said goal. So what’s the lesson here? ENJOY THE PROCESS!!!

Enjoy falling down.
Enjoy the lessons.
Enjoy competing with yourself.
Enjoy the hard work.
EMBRACE YOUR GROWTH EACH TIME!!!

Don’t for a second think that if you don’t get “there” in one shot that it’s pointless and quit. Quitters never get to the destination!

I have realized through the years of working on myself what my true love language is… TIME!

I grew up with a major focus on accumulating things and a lot of spending. So to this day I still have an impulse to buy the latest greatest gadget or thinking I need to upgrade something that works absolutely fine. While figuring myself out these past few years and really focusing on what I VALUE, I have found the thing that makes me truly happy is TIME with my people, not things.

I have found when I focused on things, I was never happy because I was always looking for the next thing after the newness wore off from the last “thing” that I purchased. But TIME… you can’t get that back! And also, TIME helps you truly connect with those you love. And that’s what life is about isn’t it? Connecting with people and developing long lasting connections and relationships with your tribe!

This lady right here has been my rock more than she knows. She has ALWAYS been there since we went walking together the first time in South Salem one fairly rainy day.

Our friendship started and has continued with fitness and health in mind. Not just for ourselves but for our littles as well! We want to pass on this gem to our kiddos since neither of us were brought up in situations where true health was at the forefront.

Of course our relationship has grown into more than health and fitness. We do annual birthday dinners or drinks, our kiddos play, she even watched my little guy when I had to go back to work, game nights, couple date nights, Friendsgivings and so much more!

Tasmyn Petlansky I love you so much lady and I cherish you so much. You are and will forever be one of my very BESTEST friends and I am so thankful for our friendship!
