On May 16th, United Medical Response responded to the Williamson County tornado, our largest multi-divisional deployment to date.
Alongside partners in fire, law enforcement, EMA, utility crews, volunteers, and mutual-aid agencies, our crews worked around the clock to respond to storm-related emergencies, search homes, treat the injured, as well as responded to routine calls throughout the region. Hats off to the various 911 PSAPs and our own communications team for getting the resources where they needed to be.
United Medical Response divisions from Herrin, Marion, Harrisburg, Salem, Centralia, and Mount Vernon were all deployed with command staff, ambulances, as well as reserve units staffed by off-duty personnel that stepped up without hesitation. Some even responded in personal vehicles to the scenes to support the search efforts.
Thankfully, there were no fatalities, though several were injured and many families are now facing major property loss or damage. Our thoughts and prayers are with them all. We hope for a speedy recovery!
As National EMS Week begins today, we’re proud to recognize our dedicated staff and the countless EMS professionals across the region who continue to serve in difficult, often thankless circumstances. If you see an EMS member out and about, feel free to toss them a “thank you.” It truly means more than you know.
To our team: You showed up when it mattered most. We’re proud of you all. Here’s to a Happy EMS Week!
