Happy Spring everyone (although we’re still bundled up like it’s November)!

Since our last post, we passed our one-year mark of serving you at Innerhealth. We appreciate our time with you and are always looking for ways to be of service to you. We’ve hired a massage therapist and are looking to add additional practitioners to Innerhealth to make this a one-stop shop for health and wellness.

A word about spring: In Chinese medicine, spring is associated with the wood element. I like to think of a young sapling pushing through and growing. Because spring can be blustery, it is important for the sapling to be pliable and to bend, necessitating a good flow of energy to cope with what life throws our way. What does this mean for our health? In Chinese medicine, spring is also associated with the liver and with liver energy. It’s a good time to do a spring cleanse. It’s also a good time to get a tune-up to make sure that your energy is flowing optimally as we kick into a higher gear for the warmer months. The liver is responsible for the smooth flow of energy. When this is not flowing as it should, folks can feel tired, irritable, and stuck. Who needs that?

We hope to see you soon, and thanks again for your patronage.

Dear patients and friends of Innerhealth:

It is with a bit of disbelief that I am at the six month mark of taking over the helm at Innerhealth already. I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for being able to get to know you and to provide you with necessary healthcare during these challenging times.

At this time Cordia and I would like to encourage you to continue to care for yourselves, paying attention to anxiety and stress that may be hanging around (my specialty in terms of treatment), particularly as school starts and the pandemic drags on.

We would also appreciate hearing from you about what we are doing right, what we could do better, and what additional services you would like to see under one roof.

Many people I know thought I needed my head examined for embarking on a new practice during these times. I think I’m in the right place at the right time. Thank you so much for choosing Innerhealth for your acupuncture needs.

More soon! Have an interesting and healthy week!

Dear friends and patients,

Michael Johnson here! So I hope the new year is treating you all well. It is a new year with new beginnings and new things coming! 2020 is over (thank goodness) and 2021 is here.

I am writing this email with very happy and sad news. The sad news: I am leaving Innerhealth in February. My last day needling patients is Friday, February 19th. I love my patients and will miss you all immensely. So come in, get a treatment, say goodbye.

Now for the GOOD news: I have another AMAZING Acupuncturist coming in. Her name is Karen, and she is absolutely fantastic. Caring, warm, funny, and laid back, she absolutely has the solution to your health concerns. More important than saying goodbye to me is saying hello to her, as she is a gifted healer. Her schedule is already getting busy and she starts work Monday, February 22nd. So go ahead and get on her schedule! She will be adding Friday’s again by popular demand. I will be around for two weeks starting Monday February 22nd for a smooth transition and to wrap things up. Feel free to come in and say goodbye to me and meet Karen!

I will truly miss you all. I am moving for many reasons, but the main one is family. I am moving so we can be closer to my family, to care for them and take care of them when we can. The hardest part is leaving, but the best part is leaving you in good hands. I will turn it over to Karen!

Hi Everyone

Karen here...I’m excited to be returning to Innerhealth as Mike passes me the baton. I worked here back in the early 2010’s with Angela and always enjoyed the setting and the clientele.

Mike and I work in a very similar manner, so no worries about too drastic changes—other than who we are.

So who am I? I’m an Oregon native who grew up in Astoria and later graduated from U of O. Along the way I earned a PhD in psychology and taught at a university before going to acupuncture school. In addition to patient care, I have conducted acupuncture research and have been on faculty in two acupuncture schools. I like to think I bring all these skills into the treatment room with me.

My area of expertise is treating the fallout from life stressors—both the daily irritants that can grind you down (losing keys, being on hold with insurance companies, etc etc etc) and the major kind (loss, grief, car crashes and work injuries, other major life changes) that can mold and reshape our identity.

I also treat aches, pains, and injuries (no surprise, it’s what we do!) including headaches, sciatica, joint pain, low back pain, neuropathy, plantar fasciitis—the list goes on. With nearly every pain treatment I am sizing you up for a “side order” of stress reduction (it’s my background, I can’t help it!)

I am looking forward to serving you and carrying on the great stamp Mike and Angela have left on this clinic.

In Health, Mike and Karen

Who I Am and Who We Are

Hello! My name is Michael Johnson Lic. Ac., Owner, Acupuncturist, and Clinical Director at Innerhealth Acupuncture and Spa. I am an Acupuncturist who has been practicing for around 9 years. I graduated from Bastyr University in Kenmore, Washington in 2009, and practiced in Seattle until 2011. Then my wife and I moved to Fairbanks, Alaska where we lived for 6 years. At that time, a wonderful opportunity presented itself here in Salem, Oregon. Angela Pfaffenberger, who had been practicing for many years as the owner of Innerhealth Acupuncture, decided it was time to retire. I bought the business April 2017, and have continued the legacy of client-centered care that she began here at Innerhealth!

Michael Johnson decided to become an Acupuncturist because it helped with his migraines, which he still enjoys treating to this day. Michael has a wife, Kim, and two little boys, Logan and Nathan. If you come to the clinic often enough you will likely see them. Michael also enjoys treating all kinds of pain conditions. He specializes in allergy treatments, using the NAET allergy elimination technique therapy. He has an undergraduate in Psychology also, and loves treating psychoemotional issues.
