The Manse will soon have new owners...who will, I am sure, be great stewards of this great home and wonderful neighbors as well.

Our thanks to all of the Real Estate Brokers and Agents who joined us for the Steeves House Tour and Brunch. A good time was had by all.

The Manse will need new owners soon as my husband is dragging me to yet another BOP post.
Actually, this is our final move and we are going home to Southern California to be near our grandsons.
On that note, there will be a Real Estate Brokers and Agents Open House and Brunch on Wednesday, May 16th from 11 until 2 pm.
If you, or someone you know, are in the real estate business please join us for a tour of this completely restored Historic Home.
Please, only REAL ESTATE BROKERS AND AGENTS MAY ATTEND THIS EVENT.
If you are truly interested in buying a home and are currently in the market for a new home contact your agent about the property. All potential buyers must be vetted and prequalified before a private tour can be arranged.
I look forward to seeing the real estate community this Wednesday, May 16th from 11 am to 2 pm.
Thank You

Hello friends and neighbors! I am throwing myself a birthday party on Saturday, October 7.
Nothing fancy and no gifts required. There will be food and cake of course but feel free to make the party even better with a dish of your own. If you like it I am sure we will too!
This is your chance to tour the Steeves house as well. Yes, I know, you've always wanted to look inside that house. We hear that all the time.
Please join us from 5 pm to 8 pm on Saturday, October 7 at the BL and Sarah Steeves House, 1694 Court St. NE.

I went out in my front yard yesterday morning to see how many new Stargazer Lilies had bloomed. Lilies are part of the onion family and have tough stems and stalks. If you walk by and want one just ask and I will cut one for you.

Our house has been surrounded by beautiful Stargazer Lilies again this year. We expect about 40 blooms from the four plants. One of the stalks is taller than me! You can see it in the picture with the Church in the background. The hydrangea was planted when the house was built in 1926. The lavender has attracted one bumblebee who runs the other bees off. She doesn't care for me much either! She buzzes around my head if I get too close when trying to take a picture. So, no queen bee close ups! Enjoy!

The Star Gazer Lilies are blooming at the Steeves House.
The original lily was gifted to me by my late friend, Penny Moore.
As many of my neighbors know Penny was an avid gardener who shared her plants with her friends and neighbors.
The original offering is now over five feet tall! The first stalk has about 20 blooms and the four plants split from that one have anywhere from 10 to 20 blooms.
Thank you Penny. 🙏

A few photos of lighting, etc in the manse. I hope the current members of the Steeves family like the way it looks. Maybe we will make a walk through the house with a video camera very soon. Who is up for a get together here very soon?

Hello neighbors. I am looking for a few good back yards. Many of you have stunning, well groomed back yards that your neighbors would love to see and I would love to share.
If you are feeling generous leave a comment with your contact information and the best day and time to come and tour your garden.

If you are a Steeves who lived in the house please look at the photos today. Two are original rose bushes seen in pics of the house the day it was finished. One is an old fountain that sits between our house and our only close neighbor on 17th St. Does anyone know anything about the fountain?

Today's mail brought a pleasant surprise in the form of a letter from one of the descendents of B.L. and Sarah Steeves.
Included were pictures of the house as it was in what I am guessing is the 60s to 70s, maybe earlier, along with an account of the ownership history.
A mystery was solved regarding a woman who was interred with the Steeves family at their mausoleum.
There was also some discussion as to who would have used the breakfast nook that was original to the house and remains intact.
During the time that Dr. and Mrs. Steeves lived here it would have been the servants. We know there were servants as there is a button under the dining room table that activates a bell in the kitchen.
We appreciate the pictures and will post pictures of the copies of the pictures if we can make that work, along with a picture of how the same areas look today.
For today here are close up pictures of the growth chart in the pantry. The pencil marks have faded in many places but it is still a wonderful record of the Steeves family as they grew up in this great old house.
