Grief during the holidays: It's not cool to say, but sometimes the holidays are not as happy as seen out there in the world. I know this because my patients talk to me about this. And, I share their sentiment at times.
It's been five long years since my father passed away from cancer, and it was right before Thanksgiving. People have told me for a while, that "it gets better" as time goes on. Eh, I don't know if I believe that.
One of the ways that I have found to cope, both back then, and now, is to get out there in nature, take a hike, listen to the leaves underneath my feet, and just try to clear my head of all those emotions that returns from back then - a sad time from the past.
I share this with you, not to get sympathy, but to let everyone know that I'm sure that there are others out there going through a tough time during the holidays. I see you. I support you. And, I want you to know that you're not alone. Hang in there this holiday season. We'll get through this, together :)
