Salem Historical Society: “October 14, 2025, 7pm: “The Salem, Ohio Witch Trial of 1894“, Presented, Becky Smith, Historian

The October 14th program of the Salem Historical Society & Museum will be presented at the Shaffer Library, located at 239 South Lundy Avenue at 7:00pm. Nonmembers of the Society are welcome to attend. Following a short business meeting, the program, “The Salem, Ohio Witch Trial of 1894”, will be presented by Becky Smith, Historian.

500 years after the infamous Salem Massachusetts witch trials, the much lesser known Salem Ohio had one of our own. Come learn how family drama escalated into an event that disrupted our quaint Quaker community and experience a reenactment based on the transcript of the trial.

Becky is the owner of Infinitees, a screen printing/embroidery/sign shop in Westville. Her husband and children join her on “urban exploring” expeditions, which led her to research the history of this event.

Please join us for comradery, chance to meet other history enthusiasts and learn a little more about history!

Contact the Salem Historical Society if you have questions, 330-337-8514.”

Salem Parks & Recreation: “A very special thank you to the more than 70 candy vendors at our 10th annual Trail of Treats, today, at Waterworth Memorial Park. We could not pull this off without each and every one of you. This was the largest vendor group to date!! We appreciate the support of area organization and businesses.

As always, thank you to our wonderful partners in this event: Curing Retinal Blindness Foundation, The Salem Chamber of Commerce, and The Salem Public Library!

Congratulations to our costume contest and vendor winners (pictured below along with some of our park department sea creatures).

We hope the more than 600 kids who walked the trail had a great time. Luckily the rain held off. See you all next year.”

Music with Dr. Mike: Heaven by Brian Adams. Always have loved this song. Went Number One when I was in junior high in 1985. I played the cassette tape over and over back in the day.

For those new to my page (and I know a lot of you are), Welcome! I'm a Family Doctor in Salem, Ohio, and I work at Salem Family Care. Check out more information about the office at http://www.SalemFamilyCare.com

And, thanks to all of you long time fans of the page, I appreciate you! In case you didn't know, this piano is at the office, and I have been known from time to time to play songs and share them with all of you. I don't practice much, so excuse the mistakes, and sometimes I have entertaining facial expressions when I mess up. Enjoy!

My story

One thing that people don’t know about me is that I was born and grew up in this area. My local credentials include attending Cardinal Mooney High School, Youngstown State University, and Northeast Ohio Medical University.

Another thing most people don’t know is that our business, the Family Practice Center of Salem, is locally owned by our physician entrepreneurs. We are independently owned and not owned by any hospital or other company. We know how to deliver high quality primary care in our community.

Why do to a Family Physician? Family Physicians are personal doctors of all ages and health conditions. We are a reliable first contact for health concerns and directly address most health care needs. Through enduring partnerships with our patients, Family Physicians help our patients prevent, understand, and manage illness, navigate through this broken health care system, and set health goals.

Family Physicians and our office staff adapt care to the unique needs of our patients and communities. We use data to monitor and manage our patient population, and use the best science available to prioritize services to most likely benefit health.
