TWENTY years since my first birth. 453 births and even more friends made along the way.

I have so many amazing memories I could fill a book! (But I won’t) Just know I cherish each birth, baby, family, and all my sister midwives. I’m so grateful to have this joyful, humbling, awe-inspiring path in life ❤️

How is it spring already? These last few months of pretend winter have been deliciously tropical in the Colorado Rocky Mountains…easy on the body and fast on the roads.

Welcome to 7 little ones that have joined us since New Years! Four boys and three girls. Some big complications, some straight forward births. As it is in life! Healthy moms, healthy babies and the breastmilk is flowing. 🙏 Welcome beauties! We are so glad you were born ❤️

As I write this post I’m heading to my last birth of 2025! What a beautiful year of births it has been. Yesterday I looked back through my notes on each birth, and I saw quite a few “long 2nd stage, strong client, difficult push” BUT also equal amounts of “straightforward water birth” or even a couple “so fast I didn’t make it!” (To my credit, I did make it to a birth for a mom who has her babies so fast that her previous TWO births were both unattended!)

Here are some fun numbers for 2025:
Biggest baby 9 lbs 9 oz
Smallest baby 4 lb 3 oz
35 total births
8 water births
8 Amish births
19 Boys
16 Girls
Three births in one day (TWICE)
12 first-time parents
2 HBACs yay!
All time c section 8%
All time VBAC success rate 86%

Thank you families for choosing me to be your midwife! Thank you babies and placentas for being so resilient. This spring I’ll celebrate 20 years of attending births and I’m so grateful for all of it. 💜

Something I’ve noticed over the years ✨

When births happen close together, there will be some striking similarities- I call it twinning up. These two babies were twinning all over the place! They both gestated at high elevations, one in Mount crested Butte at 9700 ft, and one in the hills *above* Leadville at 11000 ft. And they were both chunky babies- one was 9,12 and one was 9,0! But the twinning doesn’t stop there: both moms were first-timers and both babies were born at home through extra challenging labors! And then there were the dads- both dads stepped up, especially postpartum with hearts full of loving service and so much resiliency. Deep bows of gratitude to these strong mamas, strong babies, and strong papas! And welcome to the world baby C and baby W. ❤️
