In today’s day and age we are all susceptible to digital eye strain. One common rule of thumb to give your eyes a break is the 20-20-20 Rule!

If you find yourself staring at a screen for a while, take a break every 20 minutes and look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

This simple rule does wonders for your eye health! If you find yourself struggling with eye strain or fatigue give us a call to book your appointment today.

February is Age-Related Macular Degeneration Awareness Month 🔎

Macular degeneration, often called age-related macular degeneration (AMD), is a condition that affects the macula - the central part of the retina responsible for sharp, detailed vision. When the macula becomes damaged, tasks like reading, driving, recognizing faces, or seeing fine details become more difficult.

Macular degeneration can have a profound impact on your quality of life, but early detection offers the best chance to protect your central vision for years to come. Whether you’re managing diabetes, have a family history of eye disease, or want to stay ahead of age-related vision changes, regular screenings are essential.

Schedule your diabetic-related eye exam at Ascent Eye Care to stay ahead of macular degeneration. Visit our office in Salida, Colorado, or call (719) 539-3581 today.

January is National Glaucoma Awareness Month. Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness in the United States and is estimated to affect 3 million Americans. At least half of those do not know they have it because glaucoma usually has no symptoms until the disease has progressed to a late stage. Schedule your annual eye exam before it’s too late.

An eye exam gives the doctor the perfect view of the eyes’ blood vessels and optic nerves, both of which can give away signs of chronic diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure and even some cancers years before a person shows symptoms. Schedule your exam today!

Did you know digital devices emit blue light and blue light exposure may contribute to digital eye strain?

Here are a few tips to help keep your eyes healthy:

• Ask The Expert. At your next annual eye exam, talk to your doctor about your lifestyle and ask about the best options for combating digital eye strain - including our blue-light-reducing lens products.
• Unplug Before Bed. Power down your devices before heading to bed.
• Give Your Eyes A Break. Whenever you find yourself spending time looking at a digital device, be sure to take frequent breaks. Get up, stretch, and give your eyes a rest.

Make an appointment today if you’re concerned about blue light exposure and digital eye strain.
