Just an FYI.

Memorial Donation Etiquette- We wanted to put together a little post regarding memorial donations to help prevent some issues we have been seeing.

Due to increased bank regulations, the only time checks can be made to the deceased person’s “Memorial Fund” is if that is the memorial listed in the obituary. So, if Jane Doe has the “Jane Doe Memorial Fund” as her memorial, that indicates the family has set up a memorial fund at a bank and can cash those checks. If Jane Doe has “XYZ Charity” listed as their memorial, then all checks need to be made to “XYZ Charity”. In this instance, any checks made to the “Jane Doe Memorial Fund” will not be able to be cashed by the family unless they then go and set up a new bank account. It greatly simplifies things for the family when checks are made directly to the memorial listed in the obituary. Checks should not be made to the “Family of Jane Doe” either, as it causes similar issues. If you ever have questions, please feel free to reach out and we can help answer them.
