💪 Shoulder Warm Up 💪

Whether you’re lifting, playing sports, or just keeping your shoulders healthy — warming up is key to preventing injury and improving performance. Try these 4 exercises before your next workout:

1️⃣ Sidelying External Rotation – Lie on your side, elbow bent at 90°, rotate your hand upward.
2️⃣ Sidelying Horizontal Abduction – On your side, lift your top arm out straight to the side.
3️⃣ Physioball Middle Trap T’s – On a physio ball, raise arms straight out to the side, forming a “T.”
4️⃣ Scaption – Standing tall, raise arms in a “Y” at about a 30° angle from your body.

📍 At Balance Physical Therapy, we help you move better, train smarter, and stay pain-free!

🙌 Beyond grateful for this kind feedback!

From post-hip replacement recovery to losing over 7 inches and 40 pounds in under 6 months — this transformation is nothing short of inspiring. 💪

What makes me proud isn’t just the numbers, but the shift in mindset: learning that results don’t come from endless cardio or caffeine, but from simple, structured workouts, balanced nutrition, and consistency.

Huge thanks for trusting the process and showing up every step of the way. Your discipline, energy, and resilience made this possible. 👏

Stretching can help reduce tension, improve mobility, and support recovery. Here are 4 simple stretches you can try 👇

1️⃣ Seated Plantar Fascia Stretch – Sit with one leg crossed, pull your toes back toward your shin.
2️⃣ Long Sitting Calf Stretch with Strap – Sit with legs out straight, loop a strap/band around your foot, and gently pull.
3️⃣ Standing Calf Stretch – Step one leg back, keep heel down, lean into the wall.
4️⃣ Standing Soleus Stretch – Same as calf stretch, but bend your back knee slightly to target deeper muscles.

✅ Hold each stretch 20–30 seconds
✅ Repeat 2–3 times per side
✅ Always stop if pain worsens

Incline dumbbell press bothering your shoulders? Try this modification 💪

Incline dumbbell press is a great exercise for strengthening the upper fibers of your pecs. If you have pain during this exercise, try moving your upper arm closer to your body. This modification will put your shoulder in a more supported position. It also puts more emphasis on your tricep!

The point of emphasis here is pain. If you do not have pain, then having your shoulder abducted to 90 degrees is a great way to focus strengthening to your upper pecs. If you have pain, try this modification to see if it improves your tolerance. And as always, remember to properly warm up your shoulders prior to any pressing exercise!

🦵 Could it be Arthritis in Your Hips or Knees? 🦵

Here are some common signs & symptoms to watch for:

🔹 Stiffness – especially in the morning or after sitting too long
🔹 Pain with activity – walking, climbing stairs, or standing for long periods
🔹 Reduced range of motion – difficulty bending, straightening, or rotating
🔹 Swelling or tenderness around the joint
🔹 Grinding or clicking sensation when moving
🔹 Weakness or instability – feeling like your joint might “give out”

💡 PT Tip: Early physical therapy can help maintain mobility, reduce pain, and improve strength—often delaying the need for more invasive treatments.

👉 If these symptoms sound familiar, our PT team can help you take the next steps toward healthier joints.
