Salinas Valley Health exists to help our community rise through good health. Founded in 1953 as Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital, today we serve individuals and families throughout the Salinas Valley, the Monterey Peninsula and the surrounding region. Each year, our highly trained team of healthcare professionals takes our renowned quality of patient care to the next level. Our team actively utilizes the latest medical techniques with our state-of-the-art technology to improve individual and community health and well-being. With a 263-bed acute care hospital, clinics across the Salinas Valley and more than 2,400 staff and employees, we recently achieved ANCC Magnet Recognition®, the highest and most prestigious distinction that a healthcare organization can achieve for nursing excellence. Earning this Magnet® designation reaffirms our steadfast commitment to nursing excellence and quality patient care. Our focus on Cancer Care, Cardiac Care, Orthopedics, Obstetrics and Stroke Center is led by 322 board-certified physicians across a broad spectrum of specialties, all dedicated to your care. To enhance and expand the reach of our care, we strategically partner with larger research and metro hospitals such as Stanford. In addition, we are part of a network of urgent care and surgery centers, the only Perinatal Diagnostic Center in the region and an Emergency Department that provides care to more than 44,000 patients every year.

Alejandra Garcia, RN, is being recognized with a DAISY Award for her compassion, persistence, and advocacy after a routine phone call led to a life-saving intervention. By speaking with a patient in his preferred language, she created a space of trust, one that allowed him to share urgent mental health concerns.

“We don’t do what we do for recognition. We do it for the gratification of helping people.”
Her actions are a reflection of what the DAISY Award represents, recognizing nurses who go above and beyond with compassion, clinical excellence, and a deep commitment to the people they serve.

To nominate one of our nurses for an upcoming DAISY Award, visit https://bit.ly/4cHYrkl.

Congratulations to our nurses! Salinas Valley Health has earned Magnet® with Distinction from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)—an elite recognition that places our organization among the highest-performing hospitals in the nation. The announcement was made this morning.

While approximately 10% of U.S. hospitals have achieved Magnet designation, only about 1% have earned Magnet with Distinction. Salinas Valley Health Medical Center is proud to be among just a small number of California hospitals to receive this honor.

This achievement reflects the expertise, leadership, and unwavering commitment of our nursing team, and the collective dedication of our entire organization to delivering exceptional, patient-centered care.
