Nutrition 101 Round 1 is done! ✅

Thank you to the group that came! I think it was the perfect start of hopefully many more nutrition classes at Fixer Upper. Our next round will be a lunchtime class in June! Stay tuned to sign up!

Small consistent changes > short-term extreme bursts.

We can try to drink more water every day, without aiming for a gallon each day.
We can eat more fruits and vegetables without ONLY eating fruits and vegetables.
We can try to limit added sugar intake without removing it completely.
We can try to increase our physical activity without going to the gym for 2 hours each day, 7 days per week.

Even with the best intentions, we burn out quickly with extreme changes.

It's easy to feel overwhelmed whenever you have a daunting goal.

Want to run a marathon? Let's start with a mile.
Want to lose 50 lbs? Let's start with 5.
Want to lower your cholesterol levels and avoid medication? We don't have to go vegan (unless you want to!)

Most goals we set start with baby steps. And the good news is, you can begin from anywhere.

Let's talk about body image! 💙

Postpartum can be challenging in many ways, but one way that surprised me this time was struggling with the way my body looks. I was prepared for the lack of sleep, balancing parenting my two older kids and baby, and the challenges of breastfeeding, but I wasn't prepared for this!

If you're having a poor body image day (or struggling daily with a low body image), here are some things I've been doing to help!

💙 Moved full length mirrors. It wasn't helpful for me to see a full reflection while getting dressed every morning.

💙 Unfollowed some accounts on social media. Many of these accounts were not blatantly triggering, but I noticed that I was comparing my body to the images I was seeing online.

💙 Scrolled less. I downloaded a few new games to play while nursing, or I open up the Bible app to remind myself of where my true worth comes from!

💙 Bought new, comfy clothes in a size up. I also have many clothes still packed up from my pregnancy that don't currently fit.

💙 Packed away the scale. It's out of my control, so why check! I encourage clients to ask: what's the best thing to come out of knowing my weight? And what's the worst thing? Typically the cons outweigh any potential pros!

💙 Shared how I was feeling with my husband. I told Adrian how I was feeling lately, and just asked for more encouragement and words of affirmation. It's okay to ask for what you need!

Baby Winnie joined our family on July 8th, and has been such a sweet addition. These last few weeks have been so special, but I've also been reminded how challenging they can be with nutrition and body image!

Stay tuned for some ways I've been prioritizing my health, both physically and mentally over the last 3 weeks with three young kids at home. And if you're in the thick of it too, know that I'm cheering for you from home. 🤍

It's baby month here at Fixer Upper Health Club ! As Gwyneth transitions to go on maternity leave later this month, Michelle Dix, RD, is ready to take on new & existing clients.

Remembering our "why" for making changes can help us maintain those changes long term! Often, goals like "to lose weight" or "to look better in a swimsuit" can get us motivated to start, but deeper reasons "why" keep us motivated through bigger obstacles and challenges.

For me personally, I want to live the healthiest life possible so I can be the best mom to my kids! I need energy to keep up with them, and I want to keep my health a priority so one day I can see their kids (& hopefully grandkids)!

If right now your motivation to make healthy changes is "to lose weight", I challenge you to keep asking "why?" until you get to the true reason behind your goals. That may keep you motivated through challenging times!
