Special Series: POCOMOKE’S MILLENIALS ARE THE NEW DOWNTOWN GENERATION
Part I: The Blevins Sisters are Landing in Downtown Pocomoke
Two of the three Blevins sisters have partnered on a downtown project called “The Landing”, where they’ll both open offices of their existing businesses in a location accessible to their neighbors in Pocomoke City. The sisters grew up in Pocomoke City with Rachel graduating from Pocomoke High School in 2002 and younger sister Stephanie in 2007. Rachel (Blevins) Harris, began her business in Law in 2023 and a Travel Agency in 2022. She tells the Arrowhead that she chose downtown Pocomoke, “Because it has built our lives and forever holds our heart. We want to invest back into the town that shaped who we are.”
Her sister and building partner, Stephanie (Blevins) Dize, has operated Mosaic Counseling and Wellness since 2019. Mosaic is a private practice that provides therapeutic services to all ages. Stephanie writes, “We focus on providing mental health support that is unique to the individuals needs through a variety of therapeutic methods and holistic approaches. About opening a branch in Pocomoke, she writes, “It’s been my dream to pour back into our community that has done so much for us. There are so few resources for our area and the eastern shore of Virginia, and I hope to see that change. I want this town to be full of opportunity for my future children, and this feels like a great place to start!”
The sisters have leaned on grant money to help bring the long-vacant building back to life. The building is sandwiched between Simply Sublime and Hickman HVAC’s downtown office. Once a pharmacy, for years a simple for sale sign and a phone number adorned the front window until the Blevins took the leap. Stephanie expressed that the cost of renovations are high with Rachel adding to plan for extra in the budget and to make good friends with the town officials and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Remodeling of the building is well underway and we’re looking forward to seeing them open their doors in the year ahead.
