National Grief Awareness Day, observed on August 30, serves as a vital reminder of the profound and personal journey of grief experienced after the loss of a loved one. For those connected to hospice care, this day holds particular meaning, as hospice services not only provide comfort at the end of life but also extend compassionate bereavement support to families and caregivers. Through counseling, support groups, and memorial programs, hospice teams walk alongside individuals navigating the complex emotions of loss. National Grief Awareness Day encourages communities to acknowledge grief openly, reduce the stigma around mourning, and honor the healing process—core values at the heart of hospice philosophy.

Coastal Hospice is with you and your family in the midst of your grief, whether your loved one was on our services or not. We have weekly support groups in Wicomico, Worcester, Dorchester and Somerset Counties. We also have 6-week intensive groups entitled “Loss of a Loved One" spaced out throughout the year. Our upcoming Community Memorial Gatherings in Wicomico County and Worcester County are September 9th and October 7th, respectively. Don’t miss our monthly Coastal Hospice Knitting Group held on the first Thursday of each month from 10 AM to 12 PM. 🧶🪡🤍

We meet at the Macky & Pam Stansell House of Coastal Hospice, where our wonderful volunteer moderator, Maggie Miller, guides the group. Together, members knit or crochet 8” squares, which are later sewn into warm and comforting blankets.

🧶 Beginner Crochet for Healing & Giving

Join Coastal Hospice for a free 6-week beginner crochet course, designed to support those who are grieving the loss of a loved one or who wish to give back to the community by creating handmade items for our patients. This small, supportive class will be led by Coastal Hospice Volunteer Pam Wood, who has partnered with Rachel Gulley, our Coastal Hospice Bereavement Coordinator.
