🌿✨ Meet African Blue Basil — One of Nature’s Most Beautiful and Beneficial Herbs! ✨🌿
As a Clinical Herbalist in training, I love sharing plants that nourish both body and spirit — and African Blue Basil is one of my absolute favorites to grow and use. 💚
About This Plant:
African Blue Basil (Ocimum kilimandscharicum × Ocimum basilicum ‘Dark Opal’) is a sterile hybrid basil—which means it doesn’t produce seeds, but grows beautifully from cuttings. It’s a perennial in warm climates (zones 9–11) and can live for years indoors with enough light.
🌞 How to Grow:
Loves full sun and warm temperatures
Prefers well-draining soil and consistent watering (not soggy!)
Propagate easily from stem cuttings — just snip a few inches below a node and root it in water or moist soil
In cooler climates, bring it indoors before frost or keep a few cuttings in water over winter
💫 Herbal & Everyday Uses:
The leaves contain camphor and eugenol, offering mild antiseptic and uplifting aromatic properties
Perfect for teas, infused oils, natural cleaning sprays, or simply as a pollinator magnet in your garden 🐝
Add fresh leaves to salads, pastas, or herbal blends for a slightly spicy, clove-like aroma
